Weak presence

A bit later than usual, sorry about that. I got so upset about Polish customs laws yesterday that I forgot about the comics completely. I need to be careful not to get this worked up about it once again ಠ_ಠ

How are you guys doing? I am so behind with everything I am starting to get disorganized, January will be a weird month after all. But I decided to move things forward since last year was an ignominious fiasco in the life-plans department so cross your fingers for me.

I wonder if you noticed that little weird thing about Stefen before? This is the actually the third time I hinted it, although it could have come unnoticed. After all he’s treated like a regular crazy guy, not some weird crazy guy (huge difference here). Next week we’ll finally hear some explanations from our charming commander and if you remember that ‘huge-ass-demon-getting-shot-by-a-missle’ sketch then you can imagine what he’ll be talking about.

Didn’t manage to update the vote incentive because I didn’t finish the next page on time… Hopefully this week.

Don’t worry, as you can see I’ve been patiently checking the page time and again. I knew you wouldn’t let us down.

    Now here’s a familiar picture.

Stefen most certainly has the stalking part down…you sure that he’s a scientist with a shotgun and not a Ninja or something? 😉

Which ‘little weird thing’? I mean, that guy is a collection of them! 😀
He seems to know a lot about everything and he manages to strike fear into a battle-hardened veteran…so yeah, not exactly your run-of-the-mill labcoat guy that one.

On another note, quite personally I would have put a question mark behind the ‘What are you saying’.
Same with the ‘Just keep this to yourself’. Just this time I would’ve put a period instead of a comma.

Well, I’m curious to hear some explanations…resetting the Replay clock. 🙂

Oh wait, did the explosion split the huge-ass demon into many little demons that scuttled away, causing havoc all over the place? 😉

Unfortunately we won’t hear the details about the big demon, I am saving those for later, just giving you guys a hint that there is a lot to look forward to haha~
I’ll stick to my punctuation as I like it better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
And I was waiting for the word ‘ninja’ to appear, yesss! He’s truly something else. Hopefully will surprise you once or twice yet in this very chapter.

      • Refugnic Reply

        Daaaw. 😛

Sheesh, like we would need a hint for that. Why do you think we keep coming back if not for the awesome waiting for us? 😉

Sure thing, just meant to give you a heads-up. 🙂

Haha, glad to be of service. 😀

I don’t think “ninja” quite covers it. He walked into the tent, in the middle of the commander’s field of view, and yet he wasn’t noticed at all. At least ninja’s have to make an effort to sneak and hide.

Replied already. And you can use my email, there is a slight chance ‘ll check it out more often: ni.replaycomic [at] gmail.com

Smokescreen…? Are you referring to his cigarette? Is it like a magic pipe, like the one dude from Fairy Tail? Or is it like MGS’s Solid Snake smoking weed and affecting the surrounding world? Any way it works, I don’t understand it with the current information I have.

          • NotImportant

It’s just a regular cigarette and I was simply joking ;D

          • Dæmon

Oh. Well, I didn’t quite catch that, what with the limitations of text medium and all that.

There is such a thing as ‘situational blindness’.
As in: Someone is so absorbed with whatever they are doing, that they plain out don’t notice whatever is going on in their periphery.

You could probably get an elephant to walk by without them noticing…as long as the elephant stays quiet that is.

          • JW

I doubt inattentional blindness applies here. Dennis is not doing something that occupies all his attentional resources, like counting how many time one of two teams passes a ball between them while a gorilla walks over the court.

          • Refugnic

Well, that only leaves the option, that Stefen has some sort of trick/magic (which is proven to exist in their world), which renders him invisible or much rather ‘imperceptible’ by his fellow men. And he’s using it to pull pranks like that.

You know, like a specific sort of telepathy/hypnotism, which ‘convinces’ the brain to ignore the data of Stefen moving around his senses feed him.

Invisibility on the contrary would mean bending the light around the own form, making his own body see-through,but you knew that. 😛

Sure, “ninja” would be apt for the first two times he was shown to sneak up on someone, but last page it seemed that a point was made of showing him in one place and then in another place with no apparent time elapsing in between. My guess is that he is a magic user, as others have suggested, but one utilizing a different style of magic than has been shown before. Unless some element of time manipulation involved, there doesn’t seem to be enough time for Stefan to create a pentacle each time he does… whatever he’s doing. My guess is that it is either a completely different type of spellcasting altogether, or that he has a permanent pentacle, probably on his person, that behaves much like the game Dishonored‘s Mark of the Outsider does, granting him a magical ability (or abilities?) that he can use at will. In this case it seems to me that Stefan is doing something akin to Blinking (from the aforementioned game).

Does WordPress not use bbcode? Could have sworn I’d used bb on this site before.

I think it just permits certain html tags. I’ve “fixed” your comment~

I didn’t get that impression at all. The third panel provides ample time for him to have walked around the table. By my estimate it’d take Robert about 5 seconds to say all that, that’s enough to cover 5-7 meters.

          • ChuckTheProphet

True, assuming that the panels two and three happen sequentially and not simultaneously, as was my first assumption… Probably the way the panel was offset from the rest of the panels? I don’t know. Doesn’t matter how I thought up my theory, I like it anyhow. 😉

And, on a similar, but ultimately irrelevant note, I tried saying Rob’s lines as I imagine I would in his situation while tapping 60bpm(ish). Roughly 2-3 seconds, but that’s still plenty of time to get across the room.

You know… This says good things about our dear disecting girl’s perception. She did notice him, even with her back turned and attention focused elsewhere.

Just checked the new vote incentive…what can I say, it’s kinda hard focusing on the token of gratitude with a messenger like that.

And now my head starts spinning with ideas on how a picture like this might be a reality…*sigh*…you’re mean, NI! 😀

      • Refugnic Reply

Okay…man, as if my kid wasn’t enough to keep me from sleeping… 😛

        Looking forward to it.

I have a few theories on how that could happen, but for now I’ll keep them to myself. 😉

      • Refugnic Reply

Hehe. My perception of that picture was a wee bit different.

First I identified the one speaking, then I grasped the text and while wondering what the heck Ada is giving away a shoe for, only then I started realizing what she was wearing.

Which goes to show how much attention I pay to people’s clothes. 😀

        • NotImportant Reply

I identify people by hairstyle and facial hair. I have no control over that, my brain just decided this will be a splendid way to recognize people.
          It isn’t.

          • Refugnic

Oh, don’t you even get me started. When someone changes their hairdo/color, it completely throws me off track in terms of recognition.
Fortunately, after failing to match up the identifying features, my brain still manages to fall back on stuff like face…but really, I’m terrible at recognizing people.

Some super famous person could probably walk past me on the street and the only thing I’d ever do would greet them politely…though I guess that’s because I don’t really care for the famous people. 😛

          • NotImportant

Not recognizing people is one thing, recognizing them as someone else and forever mixing their names – ughhh ಠ_ಠ

          • Refugnic

Let’s see…I’ve been called (regularly!) by the name of my uncle, by the name of my pet bird and by the name of my son.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m so unremarkable, that people keep misidentifying me (sometimes multiple times in the same conversation), or am I so damn similar to them (thankfully getting mixed up with the bird is rather rare if that’s the case :P).

Oh and of course people keep misspelling my name. It’s kinda sad that I’ve grown used to it getting spelled wrong.

But yeah, misidentifying people is…unpleasant. 🙂

        • Lukkai Reply

Okay: In reality my perception went “Text, face, shoeaowowahabbada!” But I couldn’t resist the obvious joke. 😉

          • Refugnic

Ahaha, I believe you’ve been around me long enough that I like to pull most any joke along, often to the point where they aren’t even funny any more. 😀

Though I’d really have liked to see your face when you looked at that picture the first time.

        • Dæmon Reply

Wait, there are freckles all over her torso?! Is that even possible in reality, or is the amount a little outside of reality?

          • Refugnic

Ada probably has quite a big genetic predisposition towards them. Either that, or she’s had a whole lot of sun all over her body (what you make of that I’ll leave up to you ;)). The only ‘weird’ thing in this context is, that the freckles are localized to the sides of her Torso, which would suggest that her sides, but not her belly (don’t know about her back) got the sun required to form the freckles.

I guess regular sunbathing on the belly would do that. Either that or a quite weird dress with the sides open and the front/back covered.
And I’m thinking about it way too much again. 😀

          • NotImportant

It is possible lol my dad has skin like that, lots of freckles appear instead of tan.

          • Lukkai

@Refugnic: I’ve seen bathing suits that could easily lead to that. Or falling asleep while reading a book or magazin in the sun and resting it on your stomach.

I am sort of like Stefen in that aspect, I can walk into a room a room pretty quietly and no one will notice me. Which is funny considering I’m a 6’7″ 350 pound giant.

Is there any way I can view previous vote incentives? I’m new to this comic, and I’ve voted, seen the current one, and now I want to see the rest.

    • Refugnic Reply

Most vote incentives are sneak peeks of future pages. So, if you’ve read the entire comic, chances are that you’ve seen most of them already.

For all those that aren’t, you ought to check the gallery.
