Roadkill

Two hands on the wheel, Rob! Wait… a bike doesn’t have a wheel, what do you say in that case?

Today let’s just spend a moment to admire what happened to the demons. All this high-class meat (?) is going to rot here on the street, wasting away. Maybe in a few more weeks, when they run out of beans and corn, they’ll have some serious regrets about leaving this behind. Comments from last week were pretty fun! And I’m sure Patreon patrons who can see the next two pages are even more confused now. Well, keep wondering, after all we won’t have all the answers anytime soon anyway. Would be boring if I explained all about the magic in the second chapter, right? But I’m disappointed that nobody mentioned almost-invisible-super-thin-metal-wires hanged below the telephone poles. Seriously! That purple glow on Rob’s hand might be just a trick of light, no?!

I’ve been pretty busy (of course), mostly drawing stuff for the not-so-secret-anymore visual novel project! As you might remember, we plan to have a demo ready for the Winter Comiket and so I’m spending my evenings drawing backgrounds and sprites. Not sure what I’m talking about? Here it is! https://lucida96.wordpress.com/

What do you say? How about… “I can ride my bike, with no handlebars”…….

Interesting to see that it, apparently, killed the one behind them, as well.

Aaaand, now they need clean clothes again. Geez, why are they so reckless! It’s not like it’s easy to wash demon blood out, by hand, with no running water nearby!

Actually, a bike has two wheels, neither of which you should put your hands on while riding 😛

But I’m disappointed that nobody mentioned almost-invisible-super-thin-metal-wires hanged below the telephone poles.

Well, magic is more plausible. Mono-filament wire would snap under it’s own weight before someone could manage to hang it up; before someone could pick it up, even. To get around that you’d need magic. But if you have magic, then you don’t need the wire.
So the only possible conclusion is that Robert has the power to summon invisible flying ninja monkeys.

Who said anything about mono-filament wire?…

Also, while I’m not sure about the exact properties of mono-filament wire (might depend on the material?), in general the length of wire that can support itself is independent of thickness.

The real problem I see is that unless it has *extremely* high tensile strength, thin wire would more likely snap than completely slice through the beasties… Unless it’s magical, like the swords.

Wires didn’t cross my mind for the simple reason because: ‘Who the heck would have put it there? And for what purpose?’
I mean, those people were attacked by demons, it’s not exactly first order of business to prepare that kind of deathtrap ‘hanging between the poles’.

Actual doability is yet another problem, as has already been stated in the other comments. 🙂

Unfortunately Browser beat me to it, but I’ll say it anyway: ‘Okay, you took care of the guys ahead of you…but who’s going save you from the one coming up from behind at high speed, now that you’re stopping?’

Good thing that Rob’s magic seems to have done a whirlwind blade move (without cutting up Ada in the process no less!), otherwise they’d be really screwed in like 10…9…8…

On a side note, and I know I’m terribly picky at this point…but it’s raining blood and innards and what not…but both of them come out not only unscathed but also clean?

That must be some amazing driving. 😀

So did the spell also redirect the pieces somehow? Since just slicing them up, while they were on direct collision course, would still let the pieces hit them head-on…

As with the swords, the demons’ bodies offered little resistance to the blades of magic, but apparently just enough to slow them down, a bit.

    Also the sandwich. 😀

But is demon meat even edible by humans or dog people or whatever? I heard that you should be careful when eating meat from herbivores, because they might have worms.

If you cook the meat thoroughly, I don’t think worms (or their eggs, or cysts or whatever) should be a problem.
But whether it’s edible at all is a good question.

I think it should take a long while before they run out of conserved foods. I mean, assuming humanity has been decimated twice over, the existing stocks should last a while. So there should be plenty in the stores in cities, if they’re willing to risk foraging there.

I look forwards to seeing Ada’s thoughts about Rob’s spellcasting. Though I expect I won’t see that for a while; Ada’s brain likely needs time to reboot, and that conversation ought to wait until our Heroes are somewhere moderately safe. Their current location certainly does not qualify.

The things that have to happen for an old motorcycle to get a fresh coat of red paint.

To be honest, I did briefly think about something like wires… But it didn’t seem plausible for a bunch of reasons.

The telephone pole behind Rob’s hand, on the previous page, had a transformer on the far side. It just happened to explode when Rob was making a fist, so his hand only appeared to glow. The cable attached to that pole was under so much tension, that when the explosion severed it, it whipped above the pair on the motorcycle, its frayed ends slicing through the demons like they were made of butter.
