Memories of rain 5

So much enthusiasm! Too much for our poor little Ada. But this flashback will actually tell you a lot about Robert. There are still few more pages left before we get back to the tents and demons.

And did I tell you that you guys are crazy? I bet I did. I’m telling you again then! First place on TWC since the beginning of the month?! Seriously!? ლ(o◡oლ)  Thank you so much… I never thought this thing will get so many devoted fans, I seriously hope I won’t disappoint you lot.

Not much news to share, still running around Tokyo, I’ve been posting some photos on the ni-japan blog if you are curious about my travels. I’ve also finished reading the Mistborn series and I can recommend! Good read, although extremely heavy. I cannot comprehend why those characters hadn’t just sat down and slashed their veins open. I am a very stubborn person and I don’t usually give up on anything but still found it hard to accept. And I can’t forgive Sanderson for turning my favorite character into someone broken, mushy and utterly annoying for not much of a reason. I’m talking about Sazed if anyone read and remembers the plot. Other than this – amazing ideas, interesting turning points and lots of fun.

Well, see you next week! You know what will happen now haha~

Interesting…I didn’t get the impression, that Robert was into magic all that much, to be honest.
But then again, I’ve only known him after life was done with him…twice…so I guess enthusiastic Robert is sorta cute.

The interesting thing here is, that he apparently believes in magic and this is a long time before the demons popped up.
As such, he’s either a dreamer, who wants to believe, making fun of Ada or: Magic existed in their world for a long time, however only a select few can actually use it.

I don’t think it’s the second one and if magic was commonplace, people wouldn’t have made fun of Ada earlier for it.

As such, I’m opting for the dreamer. 🙂

I hope you’ll continue to enjoy your trip NI. 🙂

And yeah, just for once, Ada’s anger is fully justified…but then again, I’m also the kinda guy who can go on and on about the same thing for minutes or even hours on end, completely oblivious to the…shall we say more subtle ways of my peers to tell me to shut up.
Quickest way to shut me up is the method Ada has illustrated just now: Tell me to shut up.

Okay, it doesn’t have to be in that volume, but it most certainly gets the job done. 🙂

I’m not convinced Robert is being serious with the “Did you make today’s rain”; he might just as easily be as not be. To me he just seems enthusiastic about the idea of magic, whether he entertains the possibility it’s real is another thing.

I dunno; we haven’t actually seen much of his interaction with magic and the like before, outside of his not really batting an eye at the swords being demon-killing weapons. Ada hid her spellbook/sorcery from him, for reasons unknown. All said, there’s nothing that’d go against his being a magic nut, albeit one who’s a little bit better at hiding it than Miss “Let’s Draw Pentagrams in Class.”

Theory 1: Ada hid her spellbook from him because she knows Robert would geek the hell out – imagine this page, but multiplied tenfold.
Theory 2: Something happened between this flashback and the present that made Robert more cynical of magic (though I doubt it, since it seems they’re still unaware of the nature of the demons and their invasion, which would be the primary impetus for any mistrust of magic).
Theory 3: Ada was totes trying to find a love spell.

Pretty much what I thought for the most part. And maybe it’s not so much about hiding his “hobby” but just not feeling like drawing spells that he would think up himself, Ada might have some sort of original she’s copying. And if you have nobody sharing your hobby and nobody is interested in the overall topic friends or classmates might never find out about it.

As for theory 1 and 2 they seem pretty plausible altough I like the second one better, he might have started to hate magic because of something that happend prior to the present. We’ll have to wait and see wich one, if any turns out to be true.

The last would be funny as heck 😀
But pretty unlikely given the spell she choose when actually trying it out (the one with toothpaste :D).

I for my part don’t feel her anger is justified at all. I think it’s *understandable* — given the parallels to the other flashback situation, with that mean girl — that it triggers a violent response in Ada; which makes her oblivious to the fact that Robert is *genuinely* enthusiastic about this stuff, rather than just teasing her. However, while *undestandble* given the history, it doesn’t make her outburst *justified*.

That moment when you meet someone who’s even MORE into your hobby than you.

From what I’ve seen of Robert so far, all I can say is that his nickname on the cast page might as well be “the sly dog”.

Ooh ‘eck, Robert got P-bombed. That was one of the most threatening words you could hear where I grew up in Northern England!

The look on Ada’s face says: “Dammit! Why do the nice ones have to be jerks too?!”

At least, as far as I can tell.

New vote incentive, yay! Pretty science lady is pretty. I do hope the fact she doesn’t currently have an entry in the cast page is not a hint of her impending demise. Pretty science lady must survive so she can do science!

Have you read Sanderson’s Stormlight archive? “The Way of Kings” is the first book, and it’s much better than Mistborn in my opinion. Unfortunately only two books are out right now…

Not yet! But since I do plan to read more of his writing and haven’t picked up a new title yet I might just as well start reading the Stormlight archive. And don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed reading Mistborn, it’s a very good series! I just kind of wished he’d show more of character’s motivations to do things instead of simply doing them (while thinking that they will all die anyway every few chapters).
