Memories of rain 2

I wonder if someone manages to catch the… Hm, not going to say what, but I had a weird idea while drawing this page, maybe you’ll spot it. Apart from that, let me tell you just how terrible drawing bicycles is. Might be that I’m slightly masochistic when it comes to drawing.

Apart from the new page, I have updated the Gallery where you can now find a new wallpaper from the last week’s vote incentive! A fresh incentive is already up as well, it’s a cutout from the incoming page. You guys have been voting like crazy lately, thanks a lot! ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ I’ve been quite busy this weekend, sketching the next scene. I am leaving for Tokyo (yeah, again) at the beginning of July, hence the preparations. I lost two pages from the buffer on the last trip due to lack of time for drawing, but this time I have everything sketched out up to page 69 of the current chapter (this one is 57th)..! ლ(╹◡╹ლ)

Enjoy Ada’s sulking and see you next week!

Why do you go back to Japan?
Anyway, I hope you’ll make a good trip and enjoy 😀

      • Adriano Reply

        Heheh, cool 😀
        You’re welcome!
I really hope you’ll enjoy it! I really mean it, especially since I’d wish to go to Japan too, if not for the architecture and so on, at leats for the MANGAAAAAAAAAAS~

        • NotImportant Reply

Going to Japan is not so hard once you seriously plan to do it so good luck buddy! And I’m sure I’ll enjoy it, well, if sun and insane humidity don’t kill me, that is~

Hahaha you are crazy people! I love you all! \(-ㅂ-)/ ♥ ♥ ♥

We did it! When I went to do my June 30th votes, I saw Replay at the #1 spot! Only about 200 or so votes above Girl Genius, but still!

        • JW Reply

Still #1 half an hour before the list reset. I had wanted to check right before, but was just too late.

          • NotImportant

I was already sleeping during the reset, with a wide smile on my face ๏◡๏

          • JW

The reset is actually at 9 in the morning our time, so it’s nothing to loose sleep over 😛

Let’s win by a bigger margin this month 😉

          • NotImportant

Ah I didn’t realize, but that’s probably because I wake up around 9.
            And with pleasure~! 😀

        • NotImportant Reply

Yeah, we did! 😀 On the last day but it was still amazing, you guys rock!

Pretty sky! Dreary rain! Crushed soda can of some sort! Most importantly, adorable Ada! I want to give her hugs, she looks like she needs one. A nice page, this.

Having done today’s TopWebComics votes, I notice Replay is rank #2 and only about 1000 votes below the current #1 comic at the time of this post. Very nice.

  3. Ooorah Reply

Oh god, Ada’s angry face is so cute. Definitely worth the vote. Thanks for the wallpaper too!

As for the weird idea with this page… the only thing I can think of is the way the can and bike panel are skewed and overlayed on the angled rain shot. Not sure though. I like the dynamic of those panels though. It really conveys the mood.

    • NotImportant Reply

Nope! It’s pretty obvious but not everyone can spot it, argh, it’s so hard to keep my mouth shut!

      • Scourge Reply

The… Um… Red thing. On the wall in the last panel. Trying really hard not to spoil…

        • NotImportant Reply

Hahah nice try~ If you meant the heart it was there on the previous page as well. And Gypsy already guessed what I meant – those 3 random guys come from another comic :3

    • NotImportant Reply

Warm, but it’s not about the ears, although it’s about that panel.

        • NotImportant Reply

That’s door handle, actually ;D And mystery has already been solved by Gypsy!

          • Beret Guy

            Oops miles off.

That’s a nice door though. Did you get it at Ikea?

  4. Refugnic Reply

Two songs come to mind with this page.
One: Katie Melua with ‘The flood’ and second ‘Umbrella’ from Rihanna, though this page most definitely has more of a ‘The flood’ feel.

Furthermore…quite personally I always carry an umbrella with me, simply because the weather can be oh so very unpredictable.
Seems like Ada’s not as well prepared. 🙂

  5. DeltaMikePapa Private Reply

The bottom left and right parts, are both part of the same panel. Ada on the outside, and the others on the other side of the glass door.

    • DeltaMikePapa Private Reply

What I don’t get though, is the “Dave” comment from the kid tying his shoe.

    • NotImportant Reply

Yeah, that’s one panel alright, but that’s not what I meant.
I am beginning to fear that no one will catch it, some failure that is, ugh!

      • DeltaMikePapa Private Reply

Well, aside from the fact that Robert’s eyes appear brown in that panel, and the blue haired kid appears to be holding up Robert’s ear, I can’t see it. 😛

        • NotImportant Reply

B-blue haired? That’s gray! And nope, there is no Robert on this page, only Ada, random kids and rain. And the bicycle.

      • DeltaMikePapa Private Reply

Still can’t figure out why the orange haired kid is refering to Robert as “Dave” though. Unless I’m missing something blindingly obvious that is. 😛

          • NotImportant

How did you confuse him with Robert is a mystery to me haha 😀 I’d understand if it was the gray haired guy!

  6. Velocat Reply

Not to add to your angst over drawing bicycles but I did spot two things with it. Reflectors facing directly aft are red, not orange. Also the chainstays don’t appear to connect to the seatstay. I enjoy your comic very much though I’m probably a little out of the normal demographic at 59.

    • NotImportant Reply

Not sure what the normal demographic is, to be honest, but I’m very happy you can enjoy it as well. Thanks for reading!
And thanks for letting me know about the errors although… I can’t promise I’ll muster up the will to fix them. Really had enough of this bike. No more bikes.

    • Refugnic Reply

      32 over here.
Besides, the person who claims that ‘(web)comics are for kids’ needs to be smacked.

Sure, there are some that are, but to qualify something as ‘for kids’, simply because it’s more colorful than the real world is just…wrong.

59 years though…most people that age I know look at me with big eyes when I start talking about my job or the internet in general. 😛
So hat’s off to you for keeping up with the times. 😀

  7. Idhren Reply

The floppy eared kid is not Robert, I can see that. Is Robert the gray-haired kid in the back? Just taking a wild guess.
If that’s not it I have no clue what the hard to catch thing in this scene is. I feel like there is going to be a massive “oh how could I not have caught that” moment for a lot of people when you say what it is.

    • Gypsy Reply

Or his little rude orange cat friend, hmmm? His name wouldn’t happen to be ‘Paul’, now would it?

      • NotImportant Reply

Oooh! Bingo! When making up random kids I thought it would be funny to incorporate characters from another comic – Bittersweet Candy Bowl~
So that’s not Robert, those are David, Paul and Mike, or are supposed to be haha. Their role will end on the next page though.

        • ^_^ Reply

Okay, that explains why I didn’t catch it. Reading way too many comics already, no time for another one LOL

        • antrik Reply

          B-but… Where is Mikie’s scarf?! Imposters, that’s what I call them! 😉

Now that you brought it up, I can’t stop thinking how similar Ada’s character is to Lucy in certain regards…

          • NotImportant

Ada is not 15 yo and stupidly violent but yeah, they have similar traits. And I thought about the scarf but it would look so stupid, who wears a scarf to school?..

          • Refugnic

FYI, I did when I still went to school.
Not for fashion reasons obviously, but much rather because of the cold winter air.

Seeing how it’s pouring, I’d assume it to be a rather cold day to begin with, so a scarf in the locker is a perfectly viable piece of clothing.

On that thought, on colder days, I often kept the scarf on even inside the building, so I’d say it’s not unheard of.

But then again, I am one weird cookie. 😛

          • NotImportant

In winter – fine, but Ada is not even wearing a jacket so it’s more like it’s late spring or early autumn.
Do I really need to add that scarf? 😀

          • Refugnic

No, all I was saying was, that I like to keep my throat warm.
So if I like to wear a scarf even in somewhat mild weather, there are bound to be others too.

All I was trying to say is, that wearing a scarf to school in mild weather isn’t as weird as it seems to seem to many.
Well, at least not to me. 🙂

Besides, spring is even worse of a cold time than winter in my opinion, because the temperatures are often like a rollercoaster. Mild/Warm one day, chilly/cold the next…not good for the immune system. 🙂

tbh the orange-haired young “gentleman reminds me Kyo from Fruits Basket

      • Bry Reply

same look, same foul attitude. Replay-Fruits Basket crossover confirmed? lol

        • NotImportant Reply

It was supposed to be BCB but damn, he really does look similar haha, I didn’t think about it when I was drawing him, even though I know Fruits Basket!

  11. DravenDonovan Reply

I actually thought Dave from BCB, but perhaps ya should have put a scarf on Mike? Haha

    • NotImportant Reply

I know, but then everyone who doesn’t know BCB would wonder why the hell he is wearing a scarf to school xD

Just seen the new voting reward. Terrifying. I’d hate to be on the receiving end of that glare.

Every new page that comes out, I spend a tiny amount of time reading (I’m a quick reader)

I then spend the next five or more minutes studying every detail you’ve put in, and falling in love with the backgrounds.

Sometimes I feel like these pages belong in an art museum instead of a webcomic. You truly are amazing at what you do art-wise,, and I bet you could make a killing selling framed prints of it, because I would hang those backgrounds all over my walls. And I’m not even that much into art!

    • NotImportant Reply

Thank you…! I always wonder if it’s worth it, spending so much time on a single page instead of creating something of maybe lower quality, but twice as fast. Personally I’d rather keep trying to make it more and more beautiful. Really happy you enjoy it! ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

  16. Leinaud Reply

First-time reader here and I just marathon-ed the entire comic. Great stuff. I must say I’m pretty picky about the art style and content for anything I follow but your comic hits all the right notes. Well done! Although it doesn’t help that I do like me some fox-girls. =^.^= I will continue to follow and vote for you, keep up the good work!

Haha, 71 comments and counting. And YOU were worried that your audience had left you! 😀

Quite on the contrary, your audience seems to be growing quite rapidly these days. 🙂

Makes me a bit jealous…but how do they say? Jealousy is just yet another form of flattery. 😉

    • NotImportant Reply

Should be a motivation for you! 😀 But yes, I’m super happy!

Rain is nice. It sounds pretty, it drives the filthy meatbags away, it dulls the horrible heat and light of the sun to more manageable levels.

… But it CAN get a bit too much sometimes. Being wet isn’t much fun. But then better a shower than a bath. Not sure why mundanes get so bothered by a little drizzle, but they’ll willingly throw themselves in a swimming pool. Madness.

  19. Refugnic Reply

A little update for those who don’t frequent Tapas, here’s the poem for this page.

You don’t seem to like the rain,
let me see those eyes again.
    Lonely eyes, filled with despair,
heavens tears fill up the air.

    Falls upon us all alike,
all our creation like that bike.
Cleanse the world and bring the blues,
douse hot minds and cool a bruise.

Paulo’s friend sets off to run,
no one knows how it begun.
Worlds away from their own drama,
where’s happy now, there will be trauma.

None to bother me at all,
if only not for this cold squall.
I’ll catch a cold without umbrella,
Yes, you run off, you stupid fella.

I don’t need you, I’ll just wait here,
    go on ahead, go disappear!
I’ll just wait for rain to pass,
then I’ll go home, through all-fresh grass.
