Second impressions

How are you guys doing? For those who ate turkey last week – I hope it was tasty~

You weren’t very active last week, hopefully the turkey was the main reason. If not, is the comic getting boring? Did you lose interest? I hope not, after all it’s still just a beginning, I hope you still enjoy the story and our adorable characters that will soon die miserable deaths and… Okay, I’m joking, I’m joking (ノ・∀・)ノ

Anyway, apart from producing new pages I am still sketching on the side, if you feel like you missed something simply check out my Twitter or Facebook account. New sketch will be published on Tuesday and I’ll try to draw something everyday. This week was lazy because of the turkey.

And say bye bye to Nina and Filip, we’ll move with Stefen for a couple more pages!

I normally just lurk, so I’m just posting because I want you to know your audience is very much still here. (Me, anyway.)

Agreed. Plenty of fans out there, new and old.
In case u haven’t noticed, your web comic is rated 1# on ‘top web comics’. I see plenty of luv.

NI, can the audience vote on a character kill for a new cast member? I’ve been hoping for the idea of a character added just so we can kill them for a while now, and because I’ve been more that a bit sadistic lately. Dark anime really has a profound effect on.me, and I am very much starting to like the Dark side of things. A good character to kill is a must in particular Stephen King novels (according to my mom when I asked about certain books of his a few years ago), and he did a LOT of demons and undead and stuff. I just think it’s a must if you want it to be dark, like how a good book has certain features in all of them. For me, it’s a struggle of light and dark parts of the characters, and the relationships they have. That, and plenty of action, if not bloodshed.

Eh, while using meaningful deaths to reinforce the stakes of a story is all well and good (and King used it to great effect), creating a character explicitly for the purpose of being killed generally doesn’t go well.

    • Refugnic Reply

I don’t think this comic is supposed to be all that dark, to be honest. Sure, there’s a lot of violence and death and destruction, but the focus is elsewhere, you know?

Of course I may be mistaken, but introducing characters who are ‘meant to die’ from the start (and the audience knows it) takes the wind out of the sails.
Now building a character as a really important part of the cast and then killing them…now that makes for a nice effect.
But disposables…well, there are ample of dead people filling that position already.

    • NotImportant Reply

Haha sorry, although I am trying to keep you guys entertained I don’t plan to leave the story in your hands all that much. Sure I get influenced by your comments but to let you kill off someone from the cast? Nope, sorry, not happening. I need all of those cast members for a tad longer~
And I wouldn’t want to feel responsible if you grow up to be a sadist ʘ‿ʘ

      • Dæmon Reply

Well, the idea was that there would be a new character to kill off after we got to know them, since it would actually affect us more. And, about becoming a sadist… I think my cousin and her family are enough of an influence for that to happen. Of course, I’ve been reading and watching some relatively light hearted stuff lately, so I started watching Attack on Titan to balance it out. I don’t exactly jade myself, as far as I can tell. I mean, yes I get more and more jaded as I watch this sturf (countered by the light anime, like rom coms, or just silly anime in general), but the anime I watch anyway can get pretty dark at times, yet they prevent total jading by adding humor in, sometimes in poorly chosen moments, as far as my sense of humor can go. Really though, I am jaded compared to when I was a kid, since life has had that effect on me, so you really wouldn’t be a worse influence than, say, getting beat up every day for the first few years of your life, and possibly until you’re 10 or so. I know I was beat up every day until the end of either kindergarten of first grade, then still had regular smack downs until I was about 10, and then proceeded to distance myself from everyone for another four years, as I had on and off all my life. All in all, I doubt you could do worse without physical or some SERIOUS verbal interaction with me.

hey there, loved your comic, got here thanks to topwebcomic (im reading another comic that is on there and this one got my attention, both because of the history and because of its position on the top 3)
keep the work pal, if you are on top 3 means that there is alot of people looking up to your comic ;P

Thanks a lot, makes me feel better to see some new faces. Happy you like it and thanks for reading! 😀

For some reason I just adore Nina’s expressions on this page, especially the plate-sized eyes in the second to last panel.

    Puppy-eyes much? 😀

Regarding the ‘I want to kill this person’…personally I think, ‘I will kill that person’ or ‘I will kill that guy’ would work better.
The ‘want to’…I don’t know, it just doesn’t seem to fit here.

    • JW Reply

      I think it fits.
It’s a bit passive aggressive. She wants to, but won’t; and she knows she’ll just keep the anger suppressed and bottled up.
The expression seems to fit with that as well; angry, but resigned.

    • NotImportant Reply

Just like JW said! She doesn’t really think she would, she is just naming her emotions and putting them aside~

      • Refugnic Reply

Hmm…yeah, I see. I guess it was just that I didn’t hear it getting formulated like that all that much which made it ring ‘wrong’ with me.

But then again, silent waters are deep…and just because we think (she’s not even saying it, she’s just thinking it) that we will do something (i.e. kill someone for being a complete bastard), that doesn’t mean that we up and do it. But yeah, point taken. 🙂

I kinda like Stefen, honestly. He’s a bit oblivious to those around him, and I like his absent-mindedness.

Stefen is so badass I would like to marry him if there wasn’t Adam in top of my list lol

Like many, I am typically just a pageview as I hit the comic, enjoy the update (I know it’s once a week, I check it daily though), but you have a lot of lurkers I’m sure that are like me.

This is a message, and stuff.

Good comic, so far, by the way. Keep it up.

    • NotImportant Reply

I will, thanks for reading! Sometimes I wonder how many of those page views are just some spambots so it’s a relief to hear from you hah~

Boring???, the only thing boring is that you dont post new material 6 days a week and twice on Sunday. Pick up the pace dude!!! Seriously, I only follow 3 comics and this is one of them. NOT boring!

    • NotImportant Reply

Added daily sketches now, so you’ve got something new everyday~ :3 And even though I’d like to draw faster it’s impossible with daily job and master thesis on my shoulders, not happening!
And thanks for letting me know it’s not boring, very happy to hear that!

      • Refugnic Reply

So does that mean we get updates twice a week once that Master thesis is off your back? 😛

Though I really appreciate those daily sketches all the same, rest assured. 😉

        • NotImportant Reply

Nah, I’ll probably start yet another project once I’m done and done with it… ;D

        • NotImportant Reply

I have agreed to help one guy from my university learn what numerical weather prediction is all about (since I know physics and he doesn’t). And I’m kind of stuck because physics was okay but the numerical part is being very VERY annoying and it’s not my field of expertise….

          • JW

Weather prediction is all about supercomputers isn’t it? And then the heat of the supercomputer rises up the atmosphere, creating a butterfly effect, which changes the weather so that the prediction you just made is invalidated 😛

So, the numerical part is converting the differential equations into numerical approximations? Or doing the calculations efficiently? (Or both?)
I did do some numerical mathematics courses at uni, but probably too long ago for me to be useful in any capacity other than a rubber ducky.

          • NotImportant

Well I did some as well, just those equations are damn sensitive and there is a lot of small quirks in this topic which I obviously don’t know… So I’ve got the code and everything seems okay and methods are nothing new but this shit just doesn’t want to work nicely. I need some special smoothing methods to make the method stable and then something else and again a little special case here and there and it’s taking ages. And there is no one at the uni who plays with this so I have no one to ask for help or advice. I shouldn’t have taken this topic at all ;/
            Sorry for the rant, eh.

          • JW

Feel free to rant away 🙂 Yours are a lot shorter than Dæmon’s 😛

If you really need help, don’t hesitate to just email an expert at some other university. The worst they’ll say is no, but many are more than happy to help anyone interested in their subject.

          • NotImportant

Hahaha I guess so! And sure, I know I could do that, but until I run out of ideas I will just stubbornly try to do this on my own. Hopefully I will fix it at some point. Hey, maybe today. Yes, I shall fix it today ლ(o◡oლ)

          • Refugnic

Good luck with that. You lost me somewhere between weather and math. 😛

I’m more of a simple minded dreamer, but the world needs those all the same.

I may not be as smart as you two, but I have other redeeming qualities. 🙂

          • JW

Bah, we didn’t even get into the equations.
I’ll bet this comment system won’t even do LaTeX formulas either.

            $\frac{Du}{Dt} – f v = -\frac{\partial \phi}{\partial x}$

          • Dæmon

Yay, someone actually said my it ants are too long! It’s official now; I need to work on that skill, which has been going well lately. It seems all skill levels are rising like crazy lately. I mean, my drawing skill has been growing with each new technique, and my writing has been getting shorter and shorter! It’s good news for almost all of my needed job and school related skills. Now if I could actually just fight, instead of being good at knowing how to use an object as a weapon intuitively and then cowering in fear instead of fighting…. Well, I’ll just settle for being somewhat athletic, but mostly intellectual.

Moving on to other topics, what kind of vehicles are used in Replay? I mean, we know they have modern technology, but are tanks functioning, and are factories still able to produce anything? (assuming that factories could potentially be accessed, and that most, if not all vehicles _could_ run on electric energy, and only use gas as a reserve resource. Although, we would still need to know whether or not they had the same level of tech as us, and just a little bit above, since a tank running on a battery is hard for us to do, what with the current system being less efficient for the energy gathering methods required to sustain a single vehicle like a car, much less a tank.)

          • Refugnic

As far as I know, their Earth is mostly identical to ours, save for the simple fact that ‘Demons’. The ears and tails are purely cosmetic (and for emotional effect), but other than that, these people are to be considered human.

Furthermore, if you kept up with NI’s twitter, you would have noticed the latest sketch/would be vote incentive…I don’t know about you, but that explosion sure looks like a tank shell exploding on that demon’s throat to me.

So yeah, I doubt that modern technology suddenly stopped working, just because demons started popping up.

          • NotImportant

I was about to reply to Dæmon but Refugnic said all I wanted to say~ There will be more (if not everything important) said about military vs demons situation in a couple of pages. I did promise to explain those things in the current chapter after all.
And Dæmon – shorter rants equal a happier person so it’s well worth working on! ;D

    • Dæmon Reply

It’s on top webcomics when I last checked, but we’re only ahead by about a hundred, which is a pretty good place for a webcomic that’s under two years old, AND only two days of voting totaled up. Sadly, though, I don’t think voting is going to be an option for me, due to personal reasons.

  10. Lady Philyra Reply

I just arrived to check out your comic because of a gorgeous ad on Not A Villain Webcomic. Who can resist a foxgirl?

  11. JW Reply

(Regarding the vote incentive) Just for the record, I’m not a fan of fanservice/pantyshots. It always makes me feel sorry for the characters.

    • NotImportant Reply

Hahaha it’s cool, this comic will never reach high levels of fanservice as I dislike it as well. But I enjoy teasing Sofia for some reason ๏◡๏
