Origin of magic

As it is known, all weird things come from the depths of the Internet. Unfortunately, Kasper is a bit reluctant to let Ada go and fetch the print~

First of all, let us celebrate more than 100 comments under the last page \(-ㅂ-)/ ♥ ♥ ♥ Thank you, restless lurkers, it made me happy to see you around for the whole week! Replay being #1 on the TWC list (still!) is simply beyond belief, you guys are awesome (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ I wrote a lot of script for the First Steps this weekend and we’ll have at least 18 episodes more of this series to brighten the voting. I hoped to finish it quickly and start a new backstory but somehow I ended up with so many parts yet to come~ And there already are 29 episodes of that thing!

Some bad things happened to people around me this last week. Frustrating things, painful things, things I can’t do anything about. I don’t want to say what exactly happened under a comic page because those are deeply personal matters and some of them not directly related to me, I’m sure you guys understand. So let’s leave it a little cryptic and forgive me if I’m under the weather this week.

Here, grab another process video and I hope you enjoy this week’s page!

Best luck to all’y’all… things happen to people good and bad… but knowing others know, feeling that helps, a tiny bit. So hopefully decloaked lurkers and such make you feel a bit better. -D

      • thebombzen Reply

“Best of luck to you all” actually means “Incredibly easy, we crushed” which Robert and Ada did, so yay?

    • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

      Yes, yes they are.
We need to be careful, though. If they and Nina ever appear in the same panel… 😯

      • Doom Reply

I’d willingly accept this risk of beauty overload, and I’m sure I’m far from the only one.

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

          Just a fair warning.
Which I, too, will absolutely ignore. Might get some safety goggles though 😉

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

I didn’t forget her, really, just didn’t want risk starting some “what’s proper to say about teens”-flamewar, even if this is not that kind of comic. I have witnessed one very recently, you might have, too, and I’m not sure that’s how NotImportant would like to fill her comments section (not that Novil wanted that either).

But yes, Laura is cute and likeable, and I love how she handled Sofia during the past events.

          • JW

Yeah, Laura is awesome, I want a little sister just like her.

It’s been a long time I’ve read the comments under either of Novil’s comics (not for any particular reason or history, mind you). So I don’t know what went on there, but I’ve seen some “OMG X too young to ship with Y” drama at other places. There’s something about “fictional” that certain people seem to have a hard time grasping.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Too late for the sister, but if I have a daughter some time in my life…

I’ve not been reading them consistently, it becomes very confusing with bigger numbers of comments. This one is much easier to follow, with the replies actually placed below the original comment.

As to content, I really have a hard time undestanding what the problem is that many people have. Looks like they feel it’s wrong that adults tell stories about young people growing up, including their new feelings and all. It’s kind of sad. I hope there will not be anything like that here.

Although I’ve seen some criticism about NI’s use of the Hebrew symbolism. I’ve not yet made my research on the magic used here, so I cannot say much about it. But as I am not a very religious person, I don’t care much, as long as they are not deprecated.

          • JW

Well, most characters here are adult (or at least over 18 😛 ), so that particular issue shouldn’t crop up here, at least.

          • JW

I wonder why people never complain about that.
“What, you can’t ship them, they’re too emotionally immature. If they had babies together they’d probably eat them!”

Still cant get over the Internet-Copy Thing 😀
Love Adas pose in the second panel – but still: Kaspar in the last panel 😉

And we said it yesterday we would make 100 post happen 😉
But i have to admit, i am still amazed you got a lead of over 4.000 votes in the TWC list.

    • NotImportant Reply

TwoKinds can get so many in 1 day so… Replay isn’t safe even with this many votes in advantage haha~!

      • NiWo21k Reply

Thats true, but i would look it this way:
Even if Tom can get so many votes in such a short time, you wont drop out of the top places 😉
You have a regular postion up there and that means its not just a fluke you have so much fans to rival the big hitters, so dont talk yourself small 😀

      • Rateus Camp dweller Reply

It’s ok to love them both right? Because I love them both.

        • NotImportant Reply

Yes, you have my blessing to love them all \(-ㅂ-)/ ♥ ♥ ♥ I do!

          • Rateus Camp dweller

Phew. It’s getting to the point where I need a longer day to keep up with all the lovely webcomics in the world.

          • JW

Maybe you can alternate between the north and south pole, a day lasts 6 months there.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Or buy a Concorde and fly west. Through the magic of time zones you might be able to read the comics and post your comics before they come online :p

          • Rateus Camp dweller

            @JW, like and Arctic Tern!

@Klorix did they not get decomissioned due to safety concerns?

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Nope, just checked Wikipedia, it they just were not profitable. Seems there was “only” one major accident, but that provided a good reason not to go on with it.

          • JW

It does seem none of the concordes are in working condition though, and unlikely to ever be again. Buying one might be possible, but flying seems out of the question.

    • NiWo21k Reply

And: I know how hard it is if bad things happen to people, espacially people near you (believe it or not, i am in the simmiliar boat this week) – i know it sounds harsh, but dont let it come too close to you, what i mean: Think about it, help them if possible and hope that everything works out for them, but dont let it get you down.

        • NotImportant Reply

Heh thanks guys. It’s seriously infuriating when world crumbles for your friends and the only thing you can do is watch them suffer. But such is life. And things do get better, usually.

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

But what’s not getting better at the moment is my spelling 🙁
I should pay more attention to that!

And Robert standing beside him and whining why he didnt had the chance to be at the recieving end of the spell 😀

      • JW Reply

I can almost imagine him just standing there in a pink frilly costume, bare hairy legs, smoking his cigarette, with a look in his eyes that says “Yeah, I’ve got a skirt on, you got a problem with that punk?!”

          • NotImportant

I want to! Just haven’t found the time yet since the comic pages have higher priority and Ada in a huge donut was just plain irresistible. You guys already threw a lot of nice ideas this week haha~

Did the demons destroy most of the infrastructure? Otherwise someone should get on their cellphone and download the book. Though, I haven’t seen anyone check their twitter-feed, so maybe they don’t have cellphones (or the required infrastructure is gone).

Actually, come to think of it, the people always looking on their screen, ignoring the world around them were probably the first victims.
“Huh, what’s all this on my stream about demons? That’s ridiculous, like that could be re-Aaaaarggggghh”
“Hey wow, what a huge pokemon, it must be super rare I never saw one like this bef-AAAarghh”
Consequently all the survivors are people without smart-phones.

    • NiWo21k Reply

Just going from what we have seen so far and the map at the end of chapter one that showed (at least after my interpretation) a overrun city – i would say that the “digital” world is gone.

But to think of it, so often we see the world destroyed by different kind of monsters (big and small) i would say people are already accustomed to it – “Oh a demon/monster attack, meh whatever” or “oh come on – why does it always happen to me on monday”…..

    • Dragon Master Reply

Would the information still exist in digital form even if there is no physical place to store it? As in there are no more computers or anything with access to the web. But if access was reestablished the stuff would still be there.

      • JW Reply

If there was really no physical place to store it, there would be no information. And if there were no computers connected to the internet, there would be no internet (because that’s what it is, computers networked together).
But it’d be hard to destroy all computers, so there are likely computers with local copies of the book. And also usb-drives and CD’s, print-outs (like Ada has at home(?) ), and old-fashioned dead-tree version of the book in certain libraries and occult book-shops etc.

        • NiWo21k Reply

I think a problem with discs, USB drives etc. could be that you not only need a still working computer (ok could be found in the city if you search at the right places) but i think in this world getting a computer run could get a little bit trickier (just going from what was going on in the camp) – they have generators, but now also connecting PCs on this grid could get problematic – you cant leave them running the whole time, so the next part they wouold need is a printer.

          • JW

Printing is a good idea (for small amounts of important information), though it means you need to find a printer (and printing supplies).

Aside from that, you could use a laptop, tablet or e-reader as something that doesn’t need to be on-grid to use. If you combine an e-reader with solar-cells, it would be a self-sufficient device that can hold a lot of information. Paper will probably last longer (won’t break if bent), but carrying a truck-load of paper around isn’t practical.

I’m not really sure what the long-term plan is, but a book on medicine and edible (and medicinal) plants would be useful. Maybe a book on farming techniques, astronomy (navigation, calendars), basic chemistry, engineering, construction techniques, logarithmic tables (and/or slide-rulers if you can find them), math, physics, and just in case you might need it a copy of “The Knowledge : How to Rebuild Our World from Scratch” (though someone should make an abridged version with useful diagrams, a real how-to guide rather than the pleasantly verbose/readable book it is now.).
I suppose as long as the demons aren’t destroying all the libraries, a lot of books should last a few decades just lying there (depending on the state of the buildings they’re in, and people burning them for fuel). So maybe there’s no immediate need to safeguard all knowledge for the future of civilization, but even just the immediately practical knowledge would take up a lot of room in paper form.

          • NiWo21k

I think the problem is to balance it out: If you only use data from a notebook or rablet, you have to be carefull, because at some point if its damaged under circumstances everything is lost or you cant access them because you dont have any more energy (so light but fragile) – books and paper can be used everytime, but the more you have to carry the heavier it gets…. But i still think paper would be the better solution – you dont need every inofrmation, but can devide what person needs what.

But you bring up something i always hate in many more modern apocalyptic storylines:
Its always guns, food and sometimes medicine but i havent seen the people trying to gather informations that could make the survival more possible – its always that they know how to plant, build, apply medicine, are great marksmen etc….

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Of course, most people do have basic knowledge of such things. I believe that I could at least make something grow or build some shelter. But you’re right, I would have trouble knowing when to plant which seeds or building in a way that my hut would withstand a storm and some such.

However I’m not sure how much books can help. Sometimes you need some expert and/or practice. Come to think of it, it’s unbelievable on how much knowledge we depend and rely in our current society.

And as was stated, books are heavy. Our group of survivors therefore need to clearly define priorities. Farming, for instance, is not of immediate use, knowing edible plants very much so.

I like the idea of a how-to guides: “How to survive the apocalypse”, “Rebuilding civilisation for dummies”.

      • antrik Reply

Someone actually wrote a book on how to rebuild our world from scratch? That’s so fucking amazing!

I have been pondering this question on and off for a while now. (Also the differences between possible scenarios: 1. enough specialists survive to have basically all working knowledge at hand, and “just” needing to recreate equipment and reestablish supply chains as efficiently as possible; 2. scientific knowledge survives, but people have to rediscover their practical application; or 3. knowledge survives only in the memories of a few people, giving a rough outline of what to strive for, but having to actually research most technical advances again…)

I’m particularly interested in what steps could be skipped given what we know now — for example, could we (mostly) avoid the fossil fuel age, going for sustainable energy sources directly? Or is it impossible to create the necessary technology without a full-blown fossils-based economy in place?…

  4. Crestlinger Reply

Plot Twist! That book is really a how-to guide to correctly raise multiples of Soloman Grundy.

Ah, Ada… don’t be so annoyed, just eat it by chunks.
But poor Ada will be sticky all over, sitting in the icing like that. Though the milk it’s floating in is good for the skin, I’m quite sure it does not make for a good bath.

    • Doom Reply

When I think of Ada being sweet, her being all sticky from sitting on a giant doughnut is not what I have in mind.

          • JW

            So you’re thinking it’s a trap?
Demon’s gonna walk up to her thinking “Ooh, delicious female covered in sugar, I’m just gonna have a bite” and then WHAM!, Ada (and/or Robert) cuts it head off.

So, it’s late. Will need to check the comments and learn about the Key of Solomon another day.

    • JW Reply

Easiest way to learn about it is to look it up on wikipedia, considering it’s a real book with a real history (and also a fake history).

That’s what I meant 🙂 Read the comments and also check what the internet says about the book.

      • NiWo21k Reply

Not necessarily. But i know that NI said projectils can be magical enhanced but its very, very, very difficult (ok in my case it were small darts/arrows from a crossbow)

        • JW Reply

Yeah, and in any case, if you destroy enough of a demon they die anyway. But shooting katana is more fun 😛

          • antrik

@NiWo21k a catapult seems way more suitable for launching katanas than a shotgun…

        • NotImportant Reply

It’s just annoying to enchant every single bullet and enchanting a gun will work only if you manage to stick that gun inside a demon. So, yeah. But demon torn to shreds by a lot of guns is pretty much dead. As they say: wood chipper works on everything ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Might be worth it, depending on how many bullets are necessary to take down a demon.
However, it must be horribly difficult to engrace a bullet (not the casing) with a pentacle, writing and all. At least by hand… Might not be worth it after all 🙁

          • JW

I don’t think wood chippers work on stone golems. And elephants are too large to feed into them. (Though I can’t imagine why you’d want to, just saying.)

          • NiWo21k

A normal woodchipper maybe, but who sais that we dont have people who have enough time to modify one, and if that doesnt work, there are these large ones that are used in quarrys – you only have to get them somehow there and jump into them….

          • antrik

I’m not sure the gyratory crushers used at quarries would be very effective against monsters: their slowness and general mode operation probably makes them relatively easy to escape…

I think the crushers used at scrapyards should work much better 🙂

      • xthorgoldx Reply

I take a page from Foundation Agent Max Lombardi when it comes to guns vs. paranormal threats:

If you can’t run, an’ it comes down to a life-or-limb decision, that’s when you pull out your gun and you shoot the fucker. If that don’t work, you shoot it again, because ninety-nine times outta a hundred, shootin’ will work if you do enough of it.

        • JW Reply

because ninety-nine times outta a hundred, shootin’ will work if you do enough of it

    Pretty pleeeaaase, Kasper~

Looks like Ada and Kasper already discussed the topic of going back to the city and get her book.
But how about trying that “anything you require” spell to get it? Maybe she just didn’t use it correctly before.

Ada still has a hard time not using strong language. 😀

    • NotImportant Reply

Kasper has this awesome superpower of being a very reasonable person, it’s hard to ignore his arguments hahaha

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Plus having a younger sister he’s probably become immune to cute pleading, throwing tantrums and all sorts of “tricks” girls have up their sleeves. 😉
I think Laura is a very mature, but at some point she must have tried.

        • JW Reply

If I had to bet on Laura or Kasper getting their way, I’d bet on Laura.
I suppose maybe Ada should just invoke a higher power; and ask Laura 😛

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Huh maybe. Never had a sister.
But they will need to head to the city anyway sooner or later, because I don’t think they can be self-sufficient yet and will soon need supplies. A little detour to Ada’s place should hopefully be possible.

          • JW

My train of thought wasn’t so much that she’d get her way because she’s his sister, but more that she’s his sister. If Sofia had been his sister, she wouldn’t be getting her way. Sofia would have enough trouble just articulating what she wants. 😛 (Well, maybe less with a family member.)
Also keep in mind that the cast page says for Laura “Weapon of choice: Older brother”. So I’m just betting she knows how to wield him.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

No problem, I see where you intended to close them and got your point 🙂

I hope we will get to see them interact some more.

    • JW Reply

But how about trying that “anything you require” spell to get it?

The trouble with those kind of spells is, what do you really require?
Knowing what you want is hard enough, knowing what you need is beyond most people.
Ada has Robert, isn’t that enough? 😛

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

That’s a romantic thought, maybe she just doesn’t realise that the pentacle actually did something, assuming that it only needed to reinforce what Robert wanted anyway. By widely acceted laws of magic, it cannot induce love.

But I’m still not so sure what Ada and Robert are, though the Dere-dere page (and the two before) suggest some strong feelings.

        • JW Reply

Well, I don’t think the spell did something with Robert or Ada, but it might have done something they haven’t noticed.
What would be even funnier if the spell makes it so you can’t notice what it does. Magic induced change-blindness.

Lets wait and see what happens the next days, maybe some new readers come up with new topics, or NI brings up something new (new voting pic) to discuss who knows 😉

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Well, I still need to read more about that magic book. 😉

  10. Klorix Camp dweller Reply

By the way, where does Sofia know the book from? I don’t think it was mentioned on any page, but they probably had enough time to talk about things during their hike. I’m sure that “What happened back there at the camp?” was in the top 10 topics.

    • JW Reply

I think after Ada saved everyone with her magic, she probably had a lot of questions to answer. I’d bet the book came up.

    • NiWo21k Reply

I would say after the lighting show Ada produced in the camp and the way she saved the people in the tent, that there was a lot to talk about, and i think Rob tried to talk with Sofia after he saw her again and so she knows more about whats going on.

      • NotImportant Reply

I hoped it would be clear that they are not having this discussion for the first time (about Ada leaving the camp to get the book) and she had to explain some things before she forced them to draw the spells.

          • antrik

Well, I think there is actually somewhat of a difference between “everyone pestered Ada about the fluorescent paint show, so she did some name dropping”, and “Ada mentioned that she has this particular book back at the cabin, and wants to fetch it”…

But either way, I think it was fairly clear that it came up in the preceding conversation, rather than being something Sofia just somehow happened to know — so no real problem there 🙂

        • JW Reply

Wait, she forced them to draw spells? Isn’t forcing Robert to draw spells like forcing water to be wet?

          • NotImportant

Let’s say it was a simplification 😀 Robert is a special case lol

          • NiWo21k

Now i want to see a picture of Ada intimidating them to learn magic – but also now her reaction on the last page makes sense: she just realised, she has put herself in this position training them 😛

          • JW

Well, at least they learned some people have no talent for (spell-)magic. Better to find that out earlier than later. Finding out in the heat of battle that you can’t do something you desperately need to do right that very moment is not conducive to survival.

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

No worries, NI, that Ada and Kasper already had this discussion was clear, I just didn’t expect Sofia to have been part of it.
But as we all agree, it makes sense that everyone must have wanted to discuss what happened in the supply tent, so some information would have been shared.

          • NotImportant

Phew! Glad I didn’t mess this up 😀 I’m constantly trying to cut things here and there to get forward faster (since there’s only one page per week…) but it’s pointless if the story gets unclear in the process.

          • NiWo21k

Dont worry, in my eyes you havent messed up once 😉
And everything that needs some explaining, you already said that there will be things coming along the road – so nothing is unclear at the moment.

And since you started First Steps you are giving us even more background – so a job well done 😀

    • Dragon Master Reply

I imagine it was mentioned during the magic lessons or something.

It’s a pretty classy outfit though. Not too frilly and stuff. Heck if it had been in plaid, he’d have almost just looked like a highlander in a kilt. All things considered he’s getting off easy.

          • NotImportant

Fine, we’ll see what you’ll say about Robert in Madoka’s frilly dress~

What’s the story behind the new voting reward? Looks like some extreme cosplay, or a really strange Fallout build!

      • JW Reply

Come to think of it, that’s the second one. We had Ada as Sayaka, before, now Stefen as Mami. Kinda makes ya want to have the complete set, like maybe Robert as Madoka, Filip as Homura , Nina or Sofia as Kyoko, Laura as Kyubey.

        • NotImportant Reply

I wrote than on the Patreon: I have a plan for all of the guys and want to make a full poster with all of them later on ლ(o◡oლ) So look forward to the next guy in skirt lol
Later we need some cosplays for the girls but I don’t have any great ideas yet.

          • JW

School swimsuit … No, bad brain, don’t go there.
Kigurumin, though it’s a bit redundant since they already have animal ears and tails.
Yukata, they can go watch fireworks at a festival or something.
Robots, “Oppa Gundam Style” 😛 ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zEhLlRsy7w My god, I’m so late to not being original it’s not even funny)
Cooking/setting the kitchen on fire. Though maybe that’s more something for the days before valentines day; and then Nina can help Ada and Sofia make chocolates for Robert. Post-apocalypse chocolate. Don’t ask me where they’d get the ingredients. Maybe Ada’s “anything you require spell” has a use after all?

          • NotImportant

Hahahaha those ideas xD I was thinking more about a concrete show. I’d put guys in outfits from Madoka and girls in…? Hm, not sure yet. Maybe servants from Fate/stay night? Or I could use characters from Soul Eater? I’m looking for funny outfits, we wouldn’t want the guys to be the only one embarrassed (even though Stefen looks like he doesn’t mind).

          • antrik

Ada and Sofia make Valentine’s chocolates for Robert… And then he has to decide which he likes better? 😉

          • JW

Now, you might be thinking, setting the kitchen on fire isn’t cosplay, but I was thinking wearing an apron and tying your hair down with a handkerchief counts, because I’ve seen it in anime…

          • JW

I’ll give concrete shows some thought.
I like the fate/stay night idea. Saber’s costume is awesome, and Rider’s pretty nice too. But it’s hardly as embarrassing for the girls as magical girl costumes for the boys.

          • NotImportant

Sadly, boys in anime don’t have as intricate costumes! But at least the girls would look badass in the outfits from Fate lol

          • NiWo21k

I so vote for Fate cosplay even if its just the girls – i so love the designs – especially the design of caster from Extra (one of the only few characters were i buy a figure from when i see one) – Ada in that costume would look great 😀

          • NotImportant

So cute!!! I haven’t looked through the designs from Fate Extra and that was clearly a huge mistake!

          • Dragon Master

Well there IS that one Magical Boy anime Cute Earth high Defense Club LOVE!. While I didn’t like it personally, (wasn’t able to get past the first few episodes), I remember it because it’s the only Magical Boy thing I’ve ever seen. Or at least the only one where the Magical Boy STAYS a boy when transformed, as opposed to becoming a girl. Of course there outfits are rather well … I’ll leave that up to personal tastes.

          • NotImportant

Omg I didn’t know that one and… and I’m not sure I want to lol I don’t feel like I’m ready for it.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Well, there’s Saint Seiya which was kind of a magical boy thing too.
But indeed, that’s not very embarassing.

It’s funny that men in women’s clothes are awkward, while women in men’s clothes, nobody cares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

          • JW

It’s funny that men in women’s clothes are awkward, while women in men’s clothes, nobody cares ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Well, I wouldn’t say that nobody cares. It’s just that it’s rarely awkward. A girl in a borat mankini would be pretty awkward, but then so is a guy — more-so even, but still.
On the other hand, a girl in a tuxedo, say, would probably add to the sex-appeal. And a girl in in oversized guy’s shirt is a classic (though that’s not “outside” clothing, so I dunno if that counts).

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Does probably not happen often, but I’d think more often than the other way around: some girls do wear boy’s clothes even outside – because they are more baggy, thus comfortable; because the girl feels rebellious; or maybe she doesn’t feel comfortbale in her body – whatever, I’m definitely not the most knowledgeable about that.

I’d be tempted to try one of those men’s skirts some day (no, not kilts, but those gothic-ish).

          • JW

To get back on the topic of cosplay for the girls.. I have to say, looking through the anime I watches, there’s really very little aside from magical girls anime that fits the bill. There’s either no interesting costumes, or too little variety (putting all the girls in the same school uniform wouldn’t be too interesting, nor would different regular clothes).
Hmm.. Maybe Re: Zero? My god, anyone should be embarrassed to be dressed up as Roswaal.
Or maybe just go with something other than anime. Like Star Wars. Or maybe Vocaloid or Avatar the Last Airbender, or My Little Pony. I bet Ada would look cute as a pony 😛 I’ve always liked girls with pony-tails …

          • Klorix Camp dweller

I guess we do have some time still to come up with ideas, if NI is going to first to the male cast cosplays.

          • NiWo21k

I think somewhere in the future we need a small forum for such things – because if this goes on like now these comment sections will get a little bit confusing 😀

          • JW

Eh. Nothing wrong with confusion. Keeps things interesting.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

It would certainly help finding these ideas later on, when the story grew a bit. But it would also take away NI’s beloved comments. So let’s wait for the community to build up a bit 😉

          • NiWo21k

I didnt say we need it right away – i dont want to take away the comments, i am not that heartless ;-(
But maybe just another subsection on this site for idea collecting would be a good idea 😉

          • JW

I’m sure NI has a notebook for any ideas she wants to save 😛

          • JW

Or maybe a notebook with a really big harddrive 😉
(On the other hand, it’s really not a replacement for old-fashioned pen and paper for these kinds of things.)

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Yet another anime I need to have a look at. Already have heard a lot of positive opinions about it.

Is it just me, or is the site slow to load sometimes? If have hundreds of tabs open, so it could be me, but it’s only the last few days that I’m noticing it (and
I always have hundreds of tabs open)…
    Maybe there’s too many comments ? 😛

    • NotImportant Reply

I haven’t noticed but if anyone else can confirm I shall investigate.

      • NiWo21k Reply

Nothing on my side, havent seen any performance issues. I only have sometimes problems loading the pictures when i use Firefox and have a download in the background from Steam – but that has nothing to do with your website…

    • Dragon Master Reply

IDK about the site being slow to load. It all comes up fairly easily, but even though everything’s here, I still get loading symbol displayed in the tab, and it will say down at the bottom waiting for xxxx.com With xxx being a different site every so often. This doesn’t happen every time I come here though.

I’m also not getting emails notifying me of new posts, even though I’ve got the box checked. Does anyone else have a problem with that?

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Don’t know for the loading speed, I seem to have problems with that on my side, because it happens on various sites.

The notification system does not seem to work either, but I blame WordPress, or whover the provider is, because I did not receive any notifications from any other sites either.

      • NotImportant Reply

It might be loading avatars from gravatar and failing (that happens sometimes). Notifications are provided by WordPress but I’ll see if something can be done about it. Thanks for letting me know!

      • NotImportant Reply

Haha thanks! Although with that tempo we’ll hit 200 before the week ends! I really need to add paging to those comments lol

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Yes, the page has become quite long.

On the other hand: at the moment I like the single page view, because it makes following the separate discussions that span several days easier.

I simply have the browser search function highlight all the comments from the day that I want to read (usually the last day I was there, then the current date) or my name. Then it’s easy to see which are new comments.

It also makes it easier to respond to early comments, because readers see them instead of only the last page. Though I don’t know if this might deter people from commenting, because the page looks overwhelming.

          Tough choice to make.

          • NiWo21k

I think the only problem here could be for new readers that its not on first view apparent which respond belongs to which comment. But that could be solved with small separating lines between the main comments (most of the comics i read do that, there are only a few where the comment section isnt listed in a list view).

          • JW

When there’s over 50 comments on one day, it’s becoming a bit of work for me to find the new comments… But I made a few bookmarklets (javascript snippets) that I can run to mark my visiting date/time and then on the next visit highlight every new comment since the last marker.

          • NotImportant

            Such dedication hahaha I love you guys (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ

        • Dragon Master Reply

Well as of this comment we are at 172, so just 3 away from a quarter ’till 200. We can do this!

          • JW

It’d be easier if we had some topic to rattle on about.

First: This again shows what an fantastic artist NotImportant is – all of the pictures look awesome.

Second: Its always great to see where things come from 🙂

Third: “wanted to make an artbook but seriously, who would ever buy it?” – i have a feeling this was a theme through NIs artist life – i hope the success of Replay has given you more confidence in your work, and you will do some things like this in the future 😉

      • JW Reply

i have a feeling this was a theme through NIs artist life

I have a feeling it’s a theme throughout most artists’ lives.

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

I was afraid, the embedded link wasn’t visible enough, but you found it anyways 🙂

The funny thing is that many of those pictures are “only sketches” in NI’s opinion, but most of us would probably agree that they are fully-fledged pieces of art. At least I do.

        • NiWo21k Reply

It was easy to find, because i automatically hover over everything that looks like a link 😀

The part with sketches: i sometimes wonder what in NI eyes are real drawings (would it be something that would destroy the whole world if that ever happens?) – but to be honest as long we get such “sketches” (even now) then i dont complain – i still would kill being able to draw only a fraction like she does (I was so glad that my sketches of Ada looked like her at the end 😛 )

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Assuming you have about as much practice as I do (I don’t even have coloured pencils), it was a nice drawing. Good enough to find out it’s a cut-out from page 53. 😉

          • NiWo21k

Its good to hear that it was good enough to see where its from 😀 — yeah under the circumstance i thought i use a pose of her i realy loved and try to “copy” it in some way but it took me nearly 10 pages with test drawings to get it done (you can see some examples in the linked video). I hope the small sequenz that i will finish – when my hand is better – will also be recognizable 😀

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

On the other hand, I just had the thought that when I do something that I enjoy (includes my work), results cannot be good enough either, so I kind of understand. Even if people tell NI that what she does is great, she wants to do even better.

There are two sides to sides to the coin that is perfectionism.

… So the resurrection spell for Renate is in the big book? I’m guessing it has to be. Not ideal, but it is a worthy quest… Hop to it, ginge-nudeface-girl…
