Hey everyone, I hope you’re all safe and sound. As for me – not much is going on (and that counts as good news nowadays). Work is hectic recently since everyone but me seems to be full of energy since 2022 started, but that’s okay, I can handle it. I’ve been trying to write more after work and that’s been going pretty good. I’m almost done with the third book’s draft and that’s exciting. I also revised the first chapter of the book I’ve been querying and plan to resume sending pleas to agents as soon as I get it proofread. I was wondering if I’m getting any better but I was able to spot some structural issues in that first chapter which I haven’t seen before so I guess I’m making progress – that’s the most important thing. It doesn’t matter how long it will take me. As long as I’m moving forward, I’m okay with the process. After all, I only have this much time for writing after work and drawing Replay.

If you haven’t read Six of Crows I can recommend it! I don’t like heist stories, but this one has pretty cool characters and was an overall entertaining read. I’m in the second volume now (it’s a duology) and I rarely have the appetite for second volumes. I also finished a writing-related book, which probably doesn’t interest many of you, but it was good too: Story Genius: How to Use Brain Science to Go Beyond Outlining and Write a Riveting Novel (not much brain science there, I’m afraid, but the advice on plotting was sound). I also discovered Dirt Poor Robins (music!) today and am enjoying it; maybe some of you will like it as well.

As usual recently: please give Historia a whirl if you haven’t yet – it’s free! PLAY HERE!

Come to us and you will see,
the chaos’ bride that you can be.
Come to us, we’ll set you free,
we’re the gate and you’re the key.

To the depths, deep down below,
the water’s cold, the currents flow.
Come, oh come, let your pains go,
follow us, the way we’ll show.

Lay to rest this maiden now,
come here, come here, you’ve made a vow.
To the abyss, take a bow,
don’t ask us why, don’t ask us how.

    Sleep, oh sleep forevermore,
sleep away, the hurt, the gore.
Sleep away and please don’t snore,
come to us, to ocean’s floor.

‘Save the queen’ is what we’ll do!
For we are many, not just few.
We have come, yes we’re on cue,
now stay with us, in deepest blue.

Looks cute, but when she comes to she’s gonna hit you for getting too close! 😉

I feel conflicted about this picture. On one hand, I fully approve of saving Ada whenever she needs it. On the other hand, I do not trust that Adam won’t try to take advantage of our freckled princess while she’s unconscious and can’t defend herself.

Hmmm. I interpreted that image differently (or may not understand you). Her hair is pulled up toward the surface suggesting her body is moving down. The bubbles are elongated under pressure suggesting movement down. “Save the Queen” feels like save her from the evil of her mundane existence and push her toward the grundylow so she can be mine (and thus saved). Like in the first Stanza of Refugnic’s poem: “Come to us and you will see, the chaos’ bride that you can be. Come to us, we’ll set you free, we’re the gate and you’re the key.” Adam has that personality. By bringing her to the demons to drown, he believes he is saving her for himself (his reward) and expediting her liberation. Is he used by the demons, or does he believe he is using them? He’s got ahold of her so she can’t get away. He tipped the boat while the frogs were still singing “Kiss the girl”.

Ominous, NI. This one was even more chilly and beautiful than that one of the monsters surrounding the tree with Stephen and Nina. Love that contrast with the blue and the red!

Dang, now I may need to change my phone background from best girl Sofa-cat with swords to our red headed heroine…

Different interpretations. We both agree that Ada and Adam appear to be moving downwards. I went with an assumption that of course the thing to do with an unconscious person underwater is to bring them to the surface, whereas you see it as Adam bringing Ada to those hands at the bottom of the panel.

There is an issue with your interpretation though: Adam’s expression.
That guy isn’t worried, he’s smiling. I’d interpret that as, ‘Yes, this is exactly how it’s supposed to be. How I want it to be.’
If he tried to save her from the demons (or drowning), he wouldn’t be smiling. He already grabbed her but it doesn’t seem like he has any intention of going back ‘up’.

If anything, he threw her in.
At least that’s the image I’m seeing. 🙂

NI was too lazy to draw Adam a shirt… At least, without the shirt we finally see how their clothes work with the tail 😉
