If you haven’t yet visited Replay’s Discord server, do so! You’re missing out a lot! Honestly, I’m glad I set it up since it’s been a source of entertainment in the last days and it’s good to be able to chat with different people. So thanks for visiting, it makes me happy!

I hope you guys are safe. Tokyo is still not under official lockdown (not sure if they can even do that) but the number of cases keeps growing every day. It’s a lonely cherry blossom season but also it’s easier to admire flowers without the tourists and people picnicking under the trees. I shared some photos on Discord and Twitter but have one here as well, it’s absolutely beautiful out there but I think this will be the last weekend for the flowers.

Lately, I’ve been focused on writing Historia’s second path (yes, I’m the writer for that one!) and it’s been going well. I should be done with the draft soon and we’ve already started discussing details and corrections with the team. I’m really excited about it!!! Working on this project has been a dream come true for me since I always wanted to make a visual novel. Grab it if you still haven’t! https://lucid-a96.itch.io/historia-act-1-doug

Poor Nat, she just can’t catch a break, can she?
First she gets…nah, better keep my spoilers for myself. 😛

    And now she gets…what?
    Eaten? Torn apart? Smashed?
Well, the cause of death doesn’t really matter all that much. 🙂

And yeah, ‘running’ appears to be a very prudent course of action. 🙂

You always hear, with regard to predators, that running is a bad idea, because it’ll give off the impression you’re prey to be chased.
Maybe they should just casually saunter off.

      • Refugnic Reply

        Fair enough.
So let’s just calmly walk away, not being a threat or a prey to anyone.

Yup, sounds legit…if only there wasn’t this stupid thing called ‘nerves’. 😀

I just say based on information I know, it’s better to not get SARS_CoV_2 (the virus) at all… If not for the sake of your own health, then for the sake of anyone else around you…

BTW I don’t know why, but I would want to have the car doors as a shield with me… That’s probably because I don’t know a sh..nothing about fighting q-:

BTW Imagine you are told you are made especially to live through the tropical injuries like weapon holes, slashes or blunt damage, you get teleported to action, and get killed by someone with sword…

That would be nice, but I don’t think we can avoid getting infected in the long run.
What the governments in the world are doing right now is not ‘battling’ the virus (cause they really can’t…), but stretching the infection.

I mean sure, it would be best, if the virus just ceased to exist, but I don’t think we’d get that lucky.

As for the car doors…I get where you’re coming from, but there’s a few problems.
First: How would you even get them loose?
Second: These things are pretty heavy, which means your movement is limited if you carry it.
Third: If you’re holding a shield with both hands…how are you going to swing the sword?

But yeah, imagine you get sent into a modern war zone, all prepped for guns and stuff…and then some nutcase with an ancient blade ends up being the end of you.

I doubt they covered that during the briefing, alright. 😀

Third: If you’re holding a shield with both hands…how are you going to swing the sword?

That why there’s two of them, one holds the shield, the other double-wields swords. Teamwork!

My country is trying to not overwhelm our hospitals, at least until doctors and nurses are fully equiped to not get infected themselves (for people saying it’s just flu – how many doctors die during flu outbreak?) and special wards are prepared to accomodate more people with complications, so we hopefully won’t have to decide who dies because we don’t have capacity… I hope we’ll have tracking of mobile phones system ready soon, so it’s possible to find who got into contact with infected and give them this information ASAP. (We kinda forgot on rest homes when distributing emergency quarantine supplies. Costly mistake…) Most people ask if all this weight out stopping the economy? We’ll see in next decade I guess…

(for people saying it’s just flu – how many doctors die during flu outbreak?)

Probably some, cause flu isn’t “just flu” either. The flu kills 300-600 thousand per year, and some of those will be doctors and other healthcare workers (because they’re only human, and despite all protection measures a quarter of them get it each year.)
But yeah, covid-19 seems to be considerably worse. Going by the exponential trend of the last few weeks covid-19 could surpass that upper limit in 3 or 4 weeks. A week later it’ll surpass yearly traffic accident deaths. Hopefully exponential growth will stop soon, though.

Of course with my Swiss brand pocket knife! I have a briefcase with tools ready, but I doubt I could get it out before it would not be only a flesh wound…

Makes me wonder if anyone has ever told this sort of story from the other side. Sounds like it might be interesting. Well, maybe not from the perspective of a demon whose existence is cut short, but y’know.

Alright people, now listen. The world we’re going to next is teeming with pesky little insects who call themselves ‘humans’.
They have a few nice toys like projectile weapons and explosives, but as long as you wear your exoskeleton you should be fine.
Our job is to go there and wipe them out…any questions?
        Yes, you over there?

Um, sorry Sir, but didn’t we try to invade the humans before?
There was something about those ‘humans’ on the history channel…I don’t think it worked so well.

Good catch…yeah, we have a bit of a…history with these critters. About 500 years ago a different branch already tried, but failed and the gate was closed…but don’t worry, this time we’ve extensively studied the enemy we’re dealing with before taking the job.
This time, there won’t be unpleasant surprises.

If you ever wondered what life of “red shirt” from Star Trek would be, there’s a novel “Redshirts” from John Scalzi.

    Poor Natalie.

I hope that isn’t just the name some guy gave his car.
Although maybe Natalie would have disagreed.

*Adds ‘Natalie’ to the red shirt corpse bucket of names to watch out for if they reappear again.

I can picture that Natalie-shouting voice continuing on the next page:
“That’s IT! Nooroo, DARK WINGS, RIIIISE!!!! *transforms* Yeeees, let’s see if I can’t akumatize Adam. But first I’ll need to power up a second coffin.”

And the saddest thing about this?

I actually KNOW what you are referring to in your comment.
      I have a 6 year old son, what’s your excuse? 😀

      • Alex Reply

Hehe, I won’t make excuses. Netflix proposed this show to me maybe a year or two ago and I love it to bits because it’s so incredibly creative and it has an uplifting atmosphere. Both things that you’ll rarely find in mainstream stuff. You could say that I switched from MLP to MLB when the former stopped being lighthearted cheeky fun and instead gave the characters more and more liabilities. I needed a replacement.

The first MLB season was a little bit repetitive, but it was still all in good fun, but season 2 and 3 became more and more intense and there were some REALLY dark topics in there as well. Have you seen that S3 episode where it was demonstrated why they can’t reveal their identities to each other? Or that one episode with the sentimonster that got converted to good? In both cases I was like holy shit this is tear-jerking! O_O

And honestly I did not expect that they could find sooooo many things they could do with the relationship between the two protagonists. I totally expected that to become boring after half a season. Remember the episode where Adrien wanted to transform into that snake with the time-powers? The poor guy.

And both season 2 and 3 have such awesome final episodes I’m not going to spoil.

But my all-time favorite episode is Zombiezou. Best. Zombie. Apocalypse. Parody. Ever. 🙂

      • Refugnic Reply

Um…if you’re referring to the Cat Blanc and the ‘Copied Ladybug’ episodes, yes, I have seen them…they aired over here only just recently, actually.

As for tear-jerking…yeah well, it did not…really work that way for me.

Interestingly enough though, I shed a little tear over a small boy asking their mom to ‘turn on the stars’ for him. (A futuristic mobile which projected the milky way into the room)…because it reminded me of my (not so) little guy and his former favorite…a small lamp in the shape of a bee, that would project golden stars and a few crescent moons to the ceiling.

The entire movie was about how that boy’s father was gradually turned into something else ‘for the greater good’…but that doesn’t change the fact, that this boy would grow up without his dad.
And that association tore right into me…I guess everyone’s different.

I mean, I also cried…yes, really, while writing one particular chapter of my own Zombie apocalypse story ‘Anti Zombie’.
        Not because of the carnage.
        Not because of the destruction.
        I can handle those.

But in that particular chapter, they found a seemingly sleeping child…a half-empty cup of water next to their bed, a crudely made toy in arm and a peaceful expression on their face…or what was left of it at the current state of decay.

The parents were sitting in the living room, the man with the gun lying next to his hand.

They took the easy way out when the world went to hell…they saved their child a life in fear and terror…but at what price…?
Oh and in case you’re wondering…I have a picture of the toy the little boy would have been holding. http://fav.me/d7qc4lf

I believe you understand why this particular chapter was…difficult for me, do you not?

Oh and: Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

*Ahem*…yeah, I do remember that episode…but as it so happens, it was not his place…not his role to play.
Though honestly, it’s a miracle nobody ever figured out who MLB really is…I mean, like ALL of the people she lends powers to are from her immediate surrounding…

I guess it’s the same as with Superman…a pair of glasses and a suit, and suddenly nobody recognizes the guy any more.
On that note, I did like what they did in that ‘Green Lantern’ movie.

        ‘Wait, you recognize me?!’
‘What, you thought a piece of tape over your cheekbones is going to trick me?!’

That one cracked me up. 😀

I guess the main reason the sentimonster episode was tear-jerking for me is because I am used to seeing these kinds of scenes in Anime, but in Anime they’re a lot more drawn-out and dramatic. My mind filled out a couple of blanks that were probably left out due to MLB being made for little kids. In Anime, that sentimonster would’ve disappeared slowly in Ladybug’s arms and it would’ve been like “Thank you for letting me have free will, even if it was for just a short time. Farewell.” and, you know, things Anime characters typically say while dying.

And I was also impressed that this way MLB taught the kids what death of a nice character feels like without making it too sad, because there was no time for the audience to become too attached to her. And now I keep wondering if all these sentimonsters have souls and whether they’re just summoned or if they’re born and killed all the time. And in the former case I wonder how many sentimonsters are available for summoning and if they can keep their memories.

I never watched Green Lantern. I keep hearing jokes about him, e.g. in the Lego Batman movie or the Super Hero Cafe on YT. I think I missed out on something. 🙂

I understand that your own stuff can make you cry (or laugh or angry etc.), because you know your buttons best. I wonder if a scene like this would make me cry, too, if I had a son. But as I am now I likely would’ve thought “Yes, good choice. Be together in heaven and leave all that hell behind. You can reincarnate later after everything is over if you want.” That doll is pretty.
