THE sandwiches

I hope you guys are ready. Because we’re going to rock this boat really, really hard ๏◡๏  Guys on Patreon who can see two pages ahead know what I’m talking about hehe. And that’s still merely a peak of the iceberg of issues those two have… I worked hard on this scene, I hope you’ll enjoy.

Some various news: I have an apartment. Our application got accepted, the place is secured, now we’re hunting furniture and counting money. I’ll need to buy EVERYTHING. I only have clothes with me and the apartment is empty, doesn’t even have ceiling lamps. So yeah, lots of fun but also lots of wasted time because it’s my first time actually furnishing something and I want to do it right. The funniest thing is that I’ll accidentally get the keys on my birthday. Very nice. Shame I still need to pay for this fantastic birthday present haha~

I’ve started watching Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo and reading Sanderson’s Oathbringer, both things are pretty fun! Shame this coming month will be so busy, I’d really like to draw more eh.

No journal this week because I’ve been only running around furniture shops! Enjoy the page and see you next week!

Its so great to see a new landscape panel again, you are just so good in creating them, they are always amazing 🙂

And i am happy for you that everything worked out with your apartment – and i think you will survive the furniture shopping – you reached a massive level boost through the whole apartment search, so this is something you will shake off easily 😉 And yes where this scene is going is already looking amazing, can’t wait to see more.

Show wise i have so much to get off my list (you are not helping ^^) and i just started to watch some old DVDs i found in my collection because i just was curious how they hold up: Bakuretsu Tenshi, éX-Driver, and Witchi Hantā Robin.

Ah, “Witch Hunter Robin”, I liked that one.
Man, I can’t believe it’s from that long ago. A few more years and my watching anime can vote…

      • NiWo21k Reply

Yeah its still one i really enjoy (especially from the OST), but i was also surprised after seeing from when this one was o.O – i feel so old XD

      • NiWo21k Reply

So you mean we should not see us as old but also as wise – sot the old wise man who wasted their time with watching anime XD

      • NiWo21k Reply

Ok, some call it “wasted” and most call it advanced training in reaching the next step in nerdiness 😀 – and i am not saying this is a bad thing 😉 *looking over my shoulder and seeing all of my collections* XD

I remember éX-Driver! I was even thinking about it at work tonight (mostly about how describing it to someone who speaks English might be a bit odd considering that “ex-” would imply “former” despite the ex-drivers being about the only people who know how to drive in that story).
And, yeah, Witch Hunter Robin was also pretty good (what I remember of it, at least).
At least you aren’t the only one to feel old, though. :3

      • NiWo21k Reply

Yeah its very interesting to explain – but more interesting is when people get over the title and hear the story, most of them think its a very modern anime because of the storyline, they don’t believe this is already this old ^^

And its like you watched this just yesterday and realize its already over ten years ago o.O

Sandwiches, prepared with Sofia’s love. Tell us how they taste, Robert! And share them with Best Girl Ada so she too can tell us how Sofia’s love tastes!

    Yay, wind turbines! 🙂

It’s a pity they probably don’t do much good at this point, except for decorating the landscape…

    • antrik Reply

Actually, I just realised that if the power grid is indeed down — which I would *strongly* assume, since I don’t believe it can hold up for any amount of time without human input — the blades on the turbines should be shown “feathered”, i.e. turned along their length so that they are parallel to the wind instead of perpendicular, thus removing all pressure. They would do this automatically when the grid is down — otherwise, they would quite literally get blown to pieces…

*Sort of* a a heads-up?… Sofia, what did you do this time?! 😉

And of course we get a scene change… Or will the nature of the sort-of heads-up be revealed in the boat-rocking scene? The suspense!

      • antrik Reply

Good thinking: that sounds super plausible… So plausible in fact that I’ll be surprised if it turns out to be something else after all 😉

  5. antrik Reply

Sofia explicitly made the sandwiches for Robert, with love — and he just wants to give them away? (To her supposed rival, no less…) Whoa, what a Jerk! 😛

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

But they were for him only!
Also re-gifting a gift is not proper manners either. (Don’t get caught at it 😉 )

      • bitflipper Camp dweller Reply

What is the protocol when sandwiches are made and given with infatuation, but received with a laissez-faire indifference, though? The gift obviously doesn’t mean the same thing to both the giver and the receiver.

        • antrik Reply

Not much of a protocol there I guess — just make sure the giver never finds out 😉

I love Ada’s shirt.. It makes me want to hug her.
    More than usual, I mean.
Nice contrast with her hair and the orange sunset colored sky.

    • NiWo21k Reply

      Not just you 😉
But let’s face it, it doesn’t matter what Ada is wearing, she will also be this character you want to give a hug – and yes even if she is looking angry and wants to kill you ^^

    • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

NotImportant, your lighting truly is fantastic!
The turquoise(ish) shirt even turns green under the golden sunset.

I bet you were a little sick of drawing trees all the time and hopefully enjoyed drawing the grassland 😉
      It’s beautiful!

      • antrik Reply

I’m sorry to say that I do not quite agree regarding the colour effects… I found them rather confusing, to be frank. (I wondered for a while about Ada’s changed eye colour, until I realised that it’s supposed to be a trick of the light…)

I believe the problem is that the “effects” are applied only between panels. To make it convincing, the palette would need to shift *within* each panel: the patches exposed to direct sunlight getting the yellowish tint, but not the others… Though depending on the process, I guess that might be too complicated to do?

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

I do see your point. I was confused at first, too. But then I thought it was a nice touch. And you can see the effect a little bit in panels 3 & 4 as well.

        • antrik Reply

Yeah, I see it too now upon closer inspection… It’s waaaay more pronounced on the next page, though 🙂

    “Oh! The sandwiches!”
It’s ok if I only sit here and press F5 until next Sunday, isn’t it. It is, right? Please tell me it is…

Like the carry-over between the bombshell of the conversation and the first part of that chant.

Heh! “Whoosh!” — an essential part of all pentacle magic; no wonder Rob couldn’t make his work! ;-p

Congrats on the new apartment! And have fun making the space your own, together; it’s so much nicer, that way, than moving in your bed from your teen-age years, your dad’s worn-out recliner, and a mis-matched sofa donated by a former room-mate. If this is indeed your first time, save the furniture for a little later. Get cookware, dinner place-settings, cleaning gear and cleansers, towels, washcloths, and that sort of thing, first. You can always sit on the floor for a month, but you won’t last one night without toilet paper. Besides, you can spend that month shopping around so that you get good-quality, affordable, matching furniture for your money, and you’ll have more funds available once the basics are taken care of. It is indeed fun, and should be. Enjoy!

Nice sounds great that you got an apartemnt.

Hope you enjoy Sakurasou, I thought it might have an extra appeal to you since you are also an artist.

Also just finished Houseki no Juni, and I must thank you very much for recommending it. That was amazing story haven’t been moved or gotten so emotional/attached about a show in ages(except for being pissed at stupidity and/or cliffhangers), but this show really got me. I really hope there will be a second season.

    • Rateus Camp dweller Reply

Pretty much, I mean I’m totally smitten by the character setting the barrier so there are definitely similarities! ;-D

  12. EnterTheNameHere Camp dweller Reply

I have to say that I find their reaction unrealistic. Beatifully artistically done, but unrealistic nonetheless… Sofia only cryptically hints something, but the reaction is like she put boudoir photo between sandwitches. It will probably make sense later, but now it doesn’t fit into the flow of story for me…

    • JW Reply

      Not really a joke, but:
If a sand witch sent sand witches sandwiches which sandwiches would the sand witch send which sand witches?

        • JW Reply

It’s not that important. It shouldn’t be missing, but I don’t see any ambiguity about where it should go or what the sentence should mean.

The important thing is that the sand witch doesn’t switch which sandwiches she sends which sand witches. Because hitches is sending sand witches sandwiches causes those sand witches with switched sandwiches to argue about which sandwiches were switched for which sand witches. Which is never a good thing.

I meant “in” instead of “is”. And also in case there are any other mistakes I meant whatever replacement is correct 😛

“So yeah, lots of fun but also lots of wasted time because it’s my first time actually furnishing something and I want to do it right. ”

The first time I read that I “read” _make it perfect_. So this comment started as “Don’t make that mistake.” Then I re-read it correctly. So now it’s only a suggestion.
My suggestion would be to start small, just the basics, but stuff that you really like and that’s good quality so you won’t have to replace it for awhile. Then as things settle down and money becomes less of a problem, you’ll notice little things that are needed here and there and then you can slowly put together something that can be a lot closer to what you want than just doing everything at once.
Don’t go into debt any more than you have to and pay off all you have as quickly as you can. Then start saving. It will help you SO much later in life.

She doesn’t monetize her page, not because she wouldn’t know how to, but because she’s awesome. 😉

        Exactly!
This page is so enjoyable, what with an awesome comic and no blinking ads or pop-ups.

      • NiWo21k Reply

If i recall correctly (its already a little while ago) she also removed adds from her page after reaching her first Patreon goal.
But hey, why are we trying to argue with an obvious bot 😉

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

To tell NI how much we appreciate her?
        I think that’s a good reason. 😉

Aaaargh! I can’t be the only person who noticed her finger!!! I wanted to see what everyone else thought about it, before I go to the next page!

That sure doesn’t look like jelly! It looks more like the cost of magic. I looked back, though, and Laura didn’t appear to have paid a similar price, when she did her first spell. Was it a lower level spell, that exacted a lower toll? What about the spell Laura is preparing to do now? Did Ada tell her about the cost? It seems like a much bigger spell than Laura’s first one. If she doesn’t make an offering, will the spell exact its own price?

What’s the name for the fear of the “Next>” button on a webcomic site? “Next>ophobia?”
