Almost like spelunking

Isn’t she a brave little girl? And if you are wondering who that guy is – he was shown once or twice, he’s Kasper’s buddy from the military although I don’t have any name for him just yet. If you have a nice suggestion feel free to throw it at me!

And now: DUN DUN DUN DUN! I hope you haven’t missed the new slider! The new logo! The new cast page! The new about page! There are lots of new things that took a while to make, this is the fruit of the secret project I’ve talked about recently. Until now I’ve been posting bits and pieces on the Patreon only. I hope I haven’t missed any suggestions you guys posted regarding the text in the cast. If I missed something or you spotted yet another typo feel free to let me know!

What more can I say – It’s been 3 years guys. Or maybe not yet? Anyhow, close to 3 years. And I’ve started this project without thinking too much, sure that if I listen to my reason I will drop this silly idea in a flash. I’m glad I went through with it, tried, struggled, got to know you a little bit… I wasn’t serious at a time, didn’t care about making a logo, didn’t care about the website too much, just threw some plugins together and hope for the best. It feels different now, you know? More professional, or something? Replay has matured in those 3 years and my resolve strengthened.

    Ooh! We get to suggest names for Kasper’s military buddy? How about “Roger”? (That’s pronounced “Roh- JAY”, by the way, just to be ridiculous about it.)

      Somehow, it made me think of Rafał… But that would be evil if spelled correctly with the Polish letter 🙂 Actually, I have a pretty hard time thinking of Polish names that other people could even pronounce…

      Daniel would work pretty well I guess, or Marek maybe.

      That’s a gibberish phrase that an anime character would say to someone like Robert (sorry, that’s a terrible explanation but I can’t really come up with anything else atm xD). Once the extra story about Robert and Ada is done and posted here it would probably clear some questions about the chunnibyou-nonsense thing. And if you are curious you can check out “Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions” anime series!

    And i am happy that you didnt dropped Replay and went on with it – like i said so many times there are only a few ways to scare me away – i still would read id even if the whole cast would just sit around doing nothing and thingking about life – i would only go away if they would start talking about the stock market, then its over for me XD

    That’s not a mouse, that’s a rat (no hair on its tail).

    That cast page looks amazing. Though a few of the squiggly relation-lines are a bit hard to see on my monitor. (Not sure if it’s due to low contrast on my monitor or if they’re objectively a bit too dark wrt the background.)
    And I especially love Laura in the second slider image.
    I don’t think I knew Filip was also a pizza-deliverer. I guess that makes him the only pizza-delivery guy in the story so far that hasn’t shot Robert 😛

        Though, considering Filip’s a math student, I’m guessing he just took the job so he could get an employee discount. That might be worth more than what he’s earning on the side. 😛

      Though in terms of biological classification, apparently rats are pretty much just big mice…

      I have to concur on the cast page being brilliant 🙂 I didn’t realise it was a recent addition.

      I tend to agree regarding the dark colours. The actual lines are mostly OK for me; but some of the labels are seriously hard to read…

    Whelp…3 years?
    You’ve been running this crazy train for 3 years already?
    Sheesh…don’t even know when I boarded it, but from the looks of it, it’s ‘final destination or bust’ for me. Whenever that may be.

    The new cast page most certainly looks amazing. At first I didn’t even see the ‘relationship’ lines cause I was busy with the main images, but those certainly add to the overall picture. 😀

    Also gotta love the progression from happy everyday life to badass postapocalyptic warriors or doom…though Sofia kinda looks…different in the second picture.
    Maybe it’s just the profile view, maybe it’s my memory playing tricks on me (again), but she looks different…definitely recognizable, but different.

    Now, regarding the new page…we’ve seen demons appear smack dab in the middle of their camp…one of them appearing straight INSIDE a tent.
    It might not be a very good idea to hole the survivors up in an enclosed space where there is only one exit to run to, until they figure out how they did that and how they can prevent that effectively.

    Sure, they’ve got Ada’s barrier, but has it been proven, that the barrier keeps them materializing inside?
    Cause as far as I’ve seen, it’s only been proven that it can keep the demons from crossing inside while fully materialized.

    Gotta love the ‘What do you want’ look on the rat. 😀

      Yup! 3 years and I have never missed an update! I feel so awesome when I realize that haha, even though it’s only one page per week xD And I sure hope you guys will stay with me, I know I won’t easily forget you and I’d probably suffer a minor heartbreak if you suddenly stop commenting ๏◡๏ So yeah, bear with me till the end of this silly adventure.

      Those relationship lines will be changing over time! The extra images for each character too, marking some special moments we’ve seen so far. Glad you like the update, thanks for the kind words!

          My boyfriend claims not taking a break ever is one of my most scary features. But that’s not true.. I do take breaks, just see how much anime I watch lol
          The heavy lifting is a pleasure in this case haha~ As long as you guys enjoy it I feel motivated and eager to draw.

        If i haved learned something over the course of my life – every person has another kind of way to define break from themself – some people just chill out on a matt, some play games, some watch movies and others go work on cars, go jogging or jump out of a plane. I think you will find something similiar in your boyfriend 😉

        As long as you dont start thinking your characters are standing around you and demanding you to continue drawing everything is fine.
        Joke aside, when you have the feeling drawing ist anymore fun or you have the feeling its a chore, then its time to do a big break.

        Yeah well, I really am none to talk about ‘taking a break’.
        I get uneasy and edgy if there’s nothing to do…meaning, whenever I want to ‘take a break’, I pull up my word processor and continue writing whatever story I’m currently working on.

        Or I do some leisurely programming on non-critical systems.
        Try out a few things, like for example Lambdas and how to get them to work with a C++03 compiler (how fun it is to be stuck programming for a platform you can’t use the even remotely current standard on. :D)

        Just laying down somewhere in the sun?
        An absolute no-go for me, unless I feel like catching up on some sleep.

        So yeah, I really shouldn’t be talking. 😛

            Read in the right way, I think it’s perfectly fine “spoken English”. But without intonation, and other cues you’d have with speech, it’s not the easiest sentence that could have conveyed the same meaning.
            Still better than the famous* “The horse raced past the barn fell”, though.

    I spotted one. 😀 Typos virtually always happen in these kinds of sentences. The “a” is too much.
    The new stuff is really nice. By “new logo” you mean the rotating images on top of the page?
    As for Kasper’s buddy, don’t got with the obvious ones lile Melchior or Balthasar. How about Alex? 😛 Nah, the first serious names that came to my mind were Tom, Seraph and Brian.

      And my logo I mean the ornamented Replay in the center part of the slider images. Replay never actually had a decent logo. For the past 3 years I’ve kept using crude REPLAY text.

        Actually, he’s not important enough to have an actual plot, I’ll probably use him whenever I need “a friendly soldier” hahah~ One of those characters I made on the fly and got used to them so I reuse them on occasion.

    Two things i just noticed
    1.) i cant believe how bad the new patreon really looks – its still a shame how they destroyed it with this one :-/
    2.) the Cast page, i looked over it again on my other system now, and one thing i have to say looks even better now then i really realised – the small pictures under the bio of every character, at first i thought they may be a little bit to much, but seeing them now they work great, but even better in this case, they look like they were stills from some kind of Replay Animation film/series.

      Haha I added a bit more space in between the characters and that helped, I think 🙂 I meant them to look like visual novel cgs or something~

      And yes, Patreon logo does look bad, my boyfriend was just complaining about it a second ago ;D

        Ok, that also worked, but i am honest with you, your art is just to lively to be from an visual novel (and befor VN lovers kill me – i pleyed a lot and i am not saying they are bad – i even did a list with all of the once i already played and what i liked about them) – thats why i thought more at an animation cell 😉

        This patreon logo just takes out to much of its illusion – just look at the TWC Logo – its just something that works in this context and can be implemented in a way that its visible and fits to the subject, but that other one just looks like something from a big business company – its just to cold and slick in my eyes – at first glance it just looks like you have an adspace there. And if you try to put it into another picture without white background i believe it will just disappear in the background :-/

      Well, the comic IS called Replay.

      For all we know, what we see as the ‘now’ could well have long since happened and is happening again right now in the mind’s eye of Ada or Robert…hopefully not in the same way as the storyline in ‘Between 12 o’clock and midnight’.
      That’d be pretty sad.
      But then again, you know what they say about the last moments in one’s life…

      Of course, if we follow this train of thought, the slowly growing ever more defunct brain could throw in the ‘visions’ (which are actually memories) out of its time sync, making them seem like whispers from the future…and because our brain is so insanely good at making sense to us, the surrounding memories get adapted to ‘react’ to these memories…but personally I don’t think that’s it.

      That’d be too easy after all. 🙂
      Oh and sad.

    As always, I’m so impressed with your work! The detail, the awesome blended artwork (anime, but also something else!). And, 3 years and you never miss an update-that is possibly what I love the most about your work: you say that this thing started out kinda free and uncaring, but you have been so professional and engaging right from the start, it’s awesome! Especially with your post-script notes that you write; you have what it takes to really develop a brand on the internet! I look forward to the day that you are able to make a full living off of this stuff!

    Oo, if you’re taking suggestions, can you make a character named Robin? Not this guy though, he seems more like a Todd to me.

    Also, I hate to make suggestions, since I know that you’re already poverwhelmingly busy, but could you put the page number somewhere in the actual page? I just started reading 2 weeks ago, and I had no way to easily associate the archive with what I had most recently read.

    Anyways, you’re amazing! Keep up the awesome work!

        By number on the page, I just meant the webpage itsself, not necessarily the artwork (unless that’s something you want to do!)…

        It’s kind of a long story, but here goes: I’ve always thought that Robin is a cool name- I’m not normally a fan of gender neutral names, but there’s just a quality about it that seems both appropriately masculine (for a male) and femenine (for a female)… Throught my life, I’ve
        connected heavily with all forms of comedy, and Robin Williams always had an energy and enthusiasm in performing and acting that was impossible to match. My last name is Richgels- pronounced Riggles, as in rhymes with Wiggles, but throughout any Richgels person’s life, it’ll be mispronounced many times: as Rich jells, Rick gals, the list goes on and on. The most common mispronounciation is Rich Gals. I want to name a son Robin someday, so there’s kind of a pun in the name… it would sound like “Robbing Rich Gals” if a teacher mispronounced it on the first day of roll call or something. Not only that, but if my son hated his name, he could fall back on just Rob… but I think Robin Riggles sounds good. It’s fitting that if he shares the name of a high-energy comedian, his name is slightly punny.

        Finally, although common, Robins are also beautiful birds.
        Tldr; i’ve become infatuated with the name for several reasons over time, might name a part of my family that name someday, and I could show my child this comic (when he’s old enough for the content), and point out that he shares a name with a character because of my divine intervention! Plus, it’s just a cool name!

      Ok, I recovered from the new awesomeness.

      The new head graphics/slider (whatever) are great! I like them all!

      Red desert:
      That determined look of them both is so well done. (And Ada’s tooth… ;))

      The city’s skyline looks cool and especially the clouds are fantastic in the sunset. I also like the patches of blue grass you put here and there. They make for a nice contrast, kind of like Ada’s hair and eyes, eh? 😉

      Office scene:
      Ponytail! (Yes I love them ponytails.) It’s great how you display Ada’s and Rob’s interaction. Looks like working together lead to them becoming friends. Or have they stuck around each other since school…?

      Filip earning his student life as Rob’s nemesis a ->pizza delivery guy:-)

      You make me wonder if that is a glimpse of their actual background stories. I mean, did they maybe meet in their pre-apocalyptic lives (not that anyone cares much for the pizza delivery guy).

      Adam having an eye on Ada, eh. Of course, we already knew that, but I like how you are showing it.

      Woods:
      Is Ada having a look at a spell coupon? But it would be nice to have such one-time spells, saving time drawing pentacles and all that.

      Robert’s been hard at work, and Sofia looking at him from the corner of her eyes is so cute.

      Don’t know much what to say about Filip and Nina here. They are both independent personalities, which shows well.

      It’s also nice to see Kasper smile and simply nice to see Laura.

      Cast page:
      The relationship arrows are a nice touch. And they look a little like your new logo. (Or vice versa?)
      I hope you won’t have to redo all of them once you reveal Julia, or whoever is hiding in the shadows!
      I also like the little personal galleries very much. And that you put their respective heights – an in centimetres! Thanks so much!

      You ran wild Ada’s her hair this time 🙂 Cute chicks shirt 😀 And fuelled mostly by donuts, LOL. Kind of like yourself (＾ω＾) (She’s got all the best of yours: determination and durability, red hair (iirc), loves donuts.

      Striving to be a good role model is a very commendable goal, but I hope he doesn’t forget his own life.

      Stefen is a scientist of the occult now, aka occultist…

      Nina likes to put flowers in her hair and quote: “Nina knows her plants” 😉 I, in contrast only try not to be an asshole.

      How did Filip get to be – and stay – together with Nina? I can hardly imagine that Nina is any more logical than any other human, especially being an artist (no offence!).

        Wow lots of impressions, thanks for sharing them, I’m always eager to know know what you think!

        Sofia’s ad got approved eventually (by a guy named Filip, let’s hope Nina doesn’t find out about this). And I’ll be working on the background stories so hopefully you guys will know everything there is to know haha. After I’m done with the Madoka cosplays I’ll resume working on First Steps (which is Ada & Robert highschool story I post on Patreon) and post it here when it’s done. We’ll see which backstory will be next, my lovely patrons will need to decide once I prepare some suggestions 🙂

        When I first saw that screenshot on the twitter feed just now and read “Disapproved for: adult content” I parsed it exactly opposite of how it’s meant. i.e. that it was disapproved to be on websites with adult content, rather than that “adult content” was the reason of disapproval.

        She is nice to look at, but the lingerie ads I saw on a dictionary site today tell me that Google is not so smart sometimes…

        Maybe reading dictionaries is a very adult thing to do?
        Alternatively, maybe google thinks it needs to spice things up a little to get boys to read a dictionary.

        It’s like evolution in real-time. You hardly notice the difference from one generation/page to the next, but then when you start digging through the archeological record/archive it blows your mind.
        With some of the other webcomics I read, when I look back in their archive I can sometimes hardly believe it ever looked like that, or even that I’d start reading something that looked like that (though of course there’s more to a webcomic than how it’s drawn).

    First of all: Yay for Laura, bringer of light in the darkness and into our hearts (^ _ ^)/

    It must smell bad down there, with all that stagnating water and no ventilation …
    I hope that the water is poor on nutrients, because once life develops in that, it’s the mosquitos rather than the demons who will become a danger. So, pumping the water out would have at least the positive side effect of preventing a mosquito invasion, especially as they probably are inside the protective pentacle.

    Maybe you should name our “friendly soldier” Felix. It’s not my favourite name, bur he’s lucky enough to get one, which might prevent hid untimely death. Or not, in which case: does anyone know a name that means “unlucky”?

      Though, I guess, they wouldn’t be able to bite you, since it goes both ways.

    It’s been a while (again) since we hit the 100s, is that when we get to page 2?

    So yeah I read through the comments and saw a bunch of stuff about Filip being a pizza-delivery guy, and something about Sophia being a model of some kind I think. But none of that stuff is in the cast page, so where is everyone getting this info. Since NI hasn’t contradicted any of it , I must assume this is cannon and not just musings on the part of the fans. Can you tell me where this is, or did I just miss it on the cast page?

        Okay cool. Thanks for sharing those pics. In the banner up top that image is apparently cut off, as all I can see is the edge of someone wearing red and holding something. I also only get about 1/2 of Faust, just enough to tell that he’s looking at Ada.
        On a side note, could also maybe you share the links for the other two banner images? Now that I know there cut off I’m wondering what I may be missing for the other two. Thank you very much!

        Thanks again, and WOW a bunch is missing from the 2nd pic. I didn’t even know Laura and Kasper were in that one. I wonder whats up with my computer that is making the banners cut off. I’ve got adblock turned off, so I don’t think it’s that. Does anyone have any ideas?

          I would expect it has to do with your screen resolution. The banners are 1936 pixels wide (and 350px high), which is even a bit wider than what my 24″ screen is set to. And the banners don’t really scale much, they just cut off the ends until I make the window really small, and then it scale a fraction.

          You can check your screen resolution at https://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/
          Mine’s 1920 x 1080. And from what you describe seeing, I’d hazard to guess you have something like 1366×768, which means almost 15% is cut from each side.

          Probably the best solution is if NI has the time and inclination to make the banners scale dynamically. Or you could buy a bigger screen 😛 (and/or set it to higher resolution)
