Look at this silly person. All of those silly persons. I hope you like the page and you’re not too disappointed that they’re still arguing. This conversation is actually a huge info-dump since I skipped a few days between them leaving the old camp and settling here (wherever ‘here’ is, because we are not sure yet). If you want more you can always visit Replay’s Patreon hehehehe ๏◡๏

If you haven’t seen the last vote incentive you might want to do so! And if you are confused about what you see – look up Puella Magi Madoka Magica! I’ll be drawing all our guys in those outfits (because I’m a cruel person like this). Actually, I wanted a side-story and even told the scenario to my bf already, but I suppose it would be kind of a shame to let Robert dream about becoming a magical girl and fight the mighty witch-Ada alongside other guys for months, before resuming the main storyline. Well, maybe one day, when I can invest even more time into Replay ;D

There were a lot of comments last week too lol I read them all. You guys are still crazy (°◡°♡) But I’m not making a forum for the 3 (5?) of you lol We did update the WordPress and plugins though, so you might want to check the notifications and let me know if something else broke in the meantime. Thanks!

And here’s the video for this week!

Blushing and refusing to let him leave? Ulterior motives detected! 🙂

Also, I love how the main characters are such complete dorks (and I mean that in the nicest sense of the word). Even in the midst of a disaster, people are people – and that’s not always a bad thing. It’s a nice contrast to some of the super-cynical stuff I see out there.

Dangit, NI! You keep making the character expressions cuter!

Also I’m in Japan now, woot.

AAA! Have an awesome stay! If you see a ginger girl in glasses, going around with a guy in a blue hat that’s me and my bf ๏◡๏ And thanks!

        • Refugnic Reply

Sure, like there would be only one pair of that walking around in an area where there’s like a billion people.

Though I will admit that having ginger hair would likely stick out like a sore thumb in a world where most people have naturally black hair.
Out of idle curiosity, how many people with dyed hair are around you in your daily life?

          • NotImportant

In Japan it’s actually very easy to stick out if you are white. Ginger hair makes it even easier. Japanese women don’t dye their hair often and if they do they use dark browns, mostly. There is a group that uses flashy colors but with those you can easily tell the hair is dyed (especially when it’s all frizzy after going from black to blonde). So in a crowd, if you see light-brown, blonde, ginger, that probably means it’s a foreigner. In Poland it would me much MUCH harder to pick me out from the crowd like that haha.

          • Refugnic

It would be kind of strange if you looked like a foreigner in the country of your ancestors. 😛
(And yes, I am aware that someone whose ancestors originally came from China would still look Chinese, thank you very much).

          • xthorgoldx

Yeah, only a few days in an I can already spot a foreigner at a hundred paces. Once you get used to crowd scanning it’s a cinch.

I’d be less worried about how long the barrier lasts than that it might not work at all as soon as Ada is too far away. There’s no telling how much they’re linked.

        • Refugnic Reply

Well, dry rain would be something new, that’s for sure.
And less damp and cold too.

Can we have that during winter time? 😀

          • JW

Isn’t hail like, technically, dry rain? That’s not less cold. I do generally prefer it as long as the hailstones aren’t too big though, because of the not getting wet part.

          • Dragon Master

Dry Rain? Would that be like Dry Ice in it’s liquid(?) state.

          • antrik

Dry Ice (i.e. solid CO2) doesn’t have a liquid state at atmospheric pressure. Liquid CO2 can only be stored pressurized (e.g. in carbonator cylinders), and evaporates pretty much immediately when pressure is removed. This is indeed what actually gives Dry Ice the “dry” property: the solid ice doesn’t melt, but rather sublimates directly to the gaseous state — so it never gets wet…

          • Refugnic

Nope, hail isn’t ‘dry’, because it’s ice. Ice is solid water which reliquifies upon contact with the human skin, making it ‘wet’ again.
If we’re talking about aggregate states now though, I prefer snow. Not any less wet, but far less uncomfortable than hail or rain.
I think we can agree on that much, can’t we? 😉

          • antrik

To complicate matters, I’d like to throw in that snow can be considered wet or dry depending on how cold it is 🙂

          • JW

I can agree that snow is more comfortable that hail or rain, but it’s also sticker than hail, so it’s harder to shake of before you go inside. I prefer staying drier when I get inside where it’s warm.

I disagree that ice/hail is wet just because it becomes wet when it melts.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

I’d like to have some snow in winter again. The last years were very disappointing…

I wonder if the rain pentacle can make snow, if instead of water you immerse it in crushed ice or freeze the water it’s in.

    • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

I’m surprised it’s still active. Four days!

She had a bad headache after casting the spell, but it doesn’t seem to affect her otherwise now. Interesting.

I wonder if that kind of information is in the Book (no, that’s no typo, I’m too lazy to write its whole name. Yes I know that this explanation is way longer 😉 )

      • NotImportant Reply

It’s not, if I remember correctly. So it’s up to me hehehe ๏◡๏

        • JW Reply

Soooo… The barrier is active until the most inconvenient time for it to fail?

          • NotImportant

Not sure if I should be talking about this but maybe I should have shown at least that: It glows when Ada puts it up, stops to glow when you break the lines (disrupting the symbols or the ring turns off the glow). I’ll need to add it somewhere… You got too worked up about this particular detail.

          • NotImportant

Aaand before you start to wonder how the heck they manage to keep it up for four days – that will be shown in this chapter but a tad later. It was hard to show everything at once and I didn’t want a huge infodump at the beginning of the chapter D:

          • JW

I kinda expected that that was how you’d bring a barrier down.
I wonder how long it’ll be until the demons figure that out/try it. It might stop them, but they could probably throw stick/rocks/people at it.

          • JW

Hmm, you’re right, she did say that.
On the other hand Robert got through. So why wouldn’t throwing him through work? Just a matter of throwing hard enough and aiming after that.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

That’s the great thing with this kind of spell. It isn’t just an invisible wall, it’s a semi-permeable membrane, stopping the harmful entities outside but letting the harmless pass through.

          • JW

Yeah, but does that mean we can use “live” ammunition or not.
Is someone still harmless if you throw them hard enough? Or would they go splat, even though they’re innocents, because going through would harm the spell (and/or those inside)? Inquiring minds want to know!
I suppose the barrier could just “catch” them, slow them down, then let them through. And, I mean, it’s not like I want the demons to find a way to defeat the barrier spell, but I want to find a way to game the rules 😛

          • Klorix Camp dweller

You mean if the demons start throwing people?!

With some sort of “for the greater good” in mind, there probably are some obscure magic calculations that weigh the danger the “projectile” is in againgst the damage it would cause to the refugees inside the wall. “Splat” might be a possibility.
The spell also working as a cushion would be nice, a magical air bag.

Magic is strange. Robert should be happy that he’s not too deeply involved 😉

          • NotImportant

Haha you guys need to keep in mind that Ada doesn’t exactly know what she is doing and they are still figuring out all the different rules. It’s hard to tell how the spell would work with vague things like “protects from danger”.

I love reading your discussions (°◡°♡)

Time to consult the true experts in demon traps and magical wardings – Sam and Dean Winchester! After 15 seasons of this stuff, they’re pretty much the authorities on all things Supernatural. 😉

  3. Refugnic Reply

Heading over to Patreon doesn’t do a thing for me. All the good stuff is grayed out! 😛

    Just kidding, of course.

Regarding letting Ada go alone…the upkeep of the barrier is just part of the problem (assuming that it doesn’t require the mage to stay nearby).
Ada needs time to cast the spell, to draw the symbols and all that stuff.

While drawing the symbols she would be as vulnerable as anyone else, so she would need some sort of escort who can swing her sword while she’s preparing the protection runes.

    There’s another possible problem:
What if, by chance, it’s not ‘another’ barrier getting erected, but much rather ‘the same’?
As in: Ada cannot create a new barrier, but relocate the old one.
That would imply that the other survivors would be left completely defenseless once Ada prepares her own camp.

After all, they don’t really have a solid grasp on how that magic really works.

The thing about magic is, just like with any sort of energy, it doesn’t just ‘come from thin air’.
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, just transformed from one form to another.
As such, the energy for the force field also needs to come from somewhere. Something (or more likely someone) needs to sustain it.

I wonder…what would happen to the barrier, if the spell caster ventured to far away?
    Or even worse, got killed?
I doubt a bunch of symbols could continue the service indefinitely like that.
After all, if it was just the symbols, the others would’ve gotten the pentacles working earlier.
    Wouldn’t you agree?

    • JW Reply

Come to think of it, Stefen’s medallion wasn’t made by him and seems to just work. So perhaps once a magic spell/item is created, it just works on its own.
On the other hand it’s possible the medallion’s magic feeds on Stefen’s innate magic reserves; after all, he did seem able to notice the swords’ magic so he’s probably not mundane either.
I suppose they could test it by handing the medallion to someone else, but I think Stefen would prefer to keep it’s existence a secret for now.

    • JW Reply

As in: Ada cannot create a new barrier, but relocate the old one.

Heh, I just realized, that that would mean no only a very small circle in the camp, barely big enough to protect a squirrel, would be protected.
If active circles glow, I think they would have noticed.
On the other hand, it could also explain why none of the circles drawn by the others works, if just one can be active (it could be one per person, but could also be one per area.)

      • Refugnic Reply

That suggests, that Ada is trying to teach them the barrier spell.
Agreed, it would be the most prudent spell to pass around, seeing how it’s the only useful one (according to Ada), but I think ‘glowing circles’ doesn’t exactly give away the type of the spell.

I believe to remember that she cast a spell for glory way back with toothpaste and it lit up the entire tent her and Rob were in at the time (but didn’t do jack, though I’m still not sure if it didn’t bring about the later demon attack after all. After all, you can’t have glory if there is nothing glorious to do.)

But yes, if we assume that the barrier spell glows constantly while active, somebody would have been screaming by now if it suddenly shut down. 😀
Which, once more, brings up a few more questions…most importantly this one: What is the fuel for the magic barrier?
If we assume that magic obeys the laws of nature (which it should IMO), it cannot run indefinitely without someone or something feeding it with energy.

As for Stefen’s medallion, I would assume that it works just like that…by feeding off the mana of the user.

Magic is generally classified as ‘the manifestation of will’, so maybe that’s the problem Rob and the others are having: They don’t want it enough.
Or much rather: They don’t want it the right way.

Rob for example just wants it in order ‘to be special’, whereas Ada’s circle might well be working because she really wants to protect these people.
Or maybe because her latent mana level is just 5 times that of poor old Rob, who knows. 😉

Getting back to Stefen’s little gadget…if it was active perpetually, nobody would be able to perceive him at all, which we know is not true. (Why do I suddenly remember the soldier in the Ikana Canyon of Majora’s Mask…oh right…:P)
So Stefen must be turning it on and off, even if just subconsciously, which would also explain why his Mana hasn’t run out yet.

So many options…guess we’ll need to wait for a little more information from their God…err, Maker…err…NI. 😛

        • JW Reply

but I think ‘glowing circles’ doesn’t exactly give away the type of the spell.

True, but there’s only one disclosed to use that has text in the middle. Besides, Ada listed the ones it wasn’t last page.

But yes, if we assume that the barrier spell glows constantly while active

They can tell it’s active somehow; or at least Ada can. So I think it’s save to assume, for the time being.

If we assume that magic obeys the laws of nature (which it should IMO), it cannot run indefinitely without someone or something feeding it with energy.

Unless they’re passive and not active. A wall can stand indefinitely, so why not a magic wall?
Or it could even be something like how charges repel eachother, and it only “activates” demons when they come close, repelling them harder the closer they gets. It’d gain potential energy as they get close, and lose energy as they go away.
          Lot’s of options 🙂

Getting back to Stefen’s little gadget…if it was active perpetually, nobody would be able to perceive him at all, which we know is not true.

That’s not quite how it works, in NI’s own words “He’s just blasted hard to notice while he wears that thing.” I don’t think he can go stealthy once he’s drawn attention to himself; once you see him and as long as you keep looking he’s not getting away. (It might be different if he also had the ring the medallion’s paired with, but he doesn’t.)
In addition, it appears the medallion is active while he’s unconscious. If it hadn’t been active while he was lying on the ground knocked-out, the demons would surely have gotten him. So I think it is perpetually active, or at least as long as it’s worn.
It might still be powered by the wearer. Or maybe it’s passive like hiding under a blanket (but a bit more secure against demons).

          • Refugnic

A wall does not ‘stand’ on it’s own, but much rather is locked in place by gravitational forces and adhesive properties.
Besides, if you pound against a wall hard enough, it’ll come crumbling down eventually. Also, corrosion will make it wither away sooner or later.

So no, a wall can not stand ‘indefinitely’, albeit it can stand for a whole while depending on how well its built.
The thing is, that a run-of-the-mill wall is essentially a pile of matter. Matter is persistent and non-volatile by nature.
A whole bunch of atoms chained together in a large cluster.

Magic on the other hand is pure energy and energy has the habit of dispersing quickly, unless kept in place by a container of some sort.
Why, ‘energy’ is what makes matter move. (For example electricity being nothing but electrons moving from one atom to another).
Newton claimed, that matter that has begun moving will keep moving unless an opposing force makes it stop.
He also claimed, that still matter will remain still, unless another force makes it move.

Now, if we assume magic to be energy, which essentially equals movement, it would keep moving…unless somehow contained or conducted.
The symbols would therefor be the conductor of the magical energy forming the barrier, so, as long as the symbols remain active and intact, so would the magic barrier…but the question remains, what exactly makes the symbols ‘active’.
Surely they would require some energy of their own to do the conducting, which means that energy is constantly being spent…so, unless the barrier can draw from environmental power sources indefinitely, which would make the thing an undefeatable perpetuum mobile, it will sooner or later fail to function…unless someone keeps pooling more power into it…or maybe less ‘pooling’, but much rather ‘channeling’.

Hmm…sentient barriers, eh? Interesting to say the least…but once again, I don’t think it would work indefinitely without some sort of power source nearby. Something (or someone) who can return the used up energy into a useable form.

Hmm…must’ve missed the story of the medallion…I wasn’t really active in the comment section as of late.
            I’m sure you noticed.

Knocked out yes, but even in a knocked out state, the subconscious continues to work (otherwise we’d stop breathing if we get knocked out, which wouldn’t be all that healthy :P)
Maybe this particular artifact also ‘remembers’ the will of the bearer, but yeah…

If it warps the perception of those around him, I don’t think it can be considered ‘passive’.
But I do get your point…once he’s entered the ‘hiding state’, he will remain ‘barely detectable’ until he drops it again…though this would beg the question how the thing works.

Bending light? (Active) Phase shift? (Passive) Warping perception? (Active)

            I wonder…

          • KTrimbach

Wait a minute. They only need the barrier to protect a large group of people. Ada wouldn’t need to create a barrier if she’s attacked, assuming that she can handle any demons that come with the sword. (Which might not be a good assumption.)

Better yet, one of them – other than Ada – can use Stefan’s medallion and go. That way, there’s no danger at all.

          • NotImportant

@KTrimbach Ada needs to sleep sometimes, hence she needs a barrier to protect herself while she can’t fight.
And I agree that Stefen’s medallion is the best option but they have no idea about it and Stefen is not exactly eager to share his toys (if he even knows what they are planning).

          • JW

A wall does not ‘stand’ on it’s own, but much rather is locked in place by gravitational forces and adhesive properties.

Sooo, it stands on it’s own, without someone or something constantly making an effort to make it stand. No one and nothing is spending energy to keep it standing. All forces cancel each other out, so no work is done, no energy spent.

Besides, if you pound against a wall hard enough, it’ll come crumbling down eventually.

Yeah, so you may not want demons pounding on your wall, because they might break through with enough effort.

Also, corrosion will make it wither away sooner or later.

Which raises the question if there is a magical equivalent. With physical walls it depends a whole lot on what the wall is made of how long it would take to corrode (if ever). I doubt a thick titanium wall would corrode before the continental plate it’s on is subducted.

So no, a wall can not stand ‘indefinitely’

Sure it can. Unless you can tell me it’ll be gone in 10 years, or 100 years, or 1000 years, it can stand ‘indefinitely’, i.e. without a set time. Maybe you’re confusing it with “forever”? I mean it in the original sense that there is not a set limit to how long it may last. Like how someone with eternal youth might live indefinitely, but might also die in a train accident. Because eternal youth protects against the “old age” limit, not against death in general.
In the same way a magic circle and a corrosion-resistant wall may last indefinitely until something/someone comes along to end it in some other than the naturally limiting way.

Magic on the other hand is pure energy

Bear in mind that’s your assumption.
Also E=mc^2, so all matter is pure energy. It’s not saying much.

Why, ‘energy’ is what makes matter move.

It’s also what makes matter 😛
Actually, forces are what makes matter move, and that (making it move) is equivalent to giving them a specific form of energy. I’m not really sure what energy does, to be quite frank.

Surely they would require some energy of their own to do the conducting,

(Going along with all your assumptions for the moment) Unless they’re the magical equivalent of super-conductors. In which case they can lock the magic in place indefinitely, just like a superconductor can lock in an electric current/magnetic field indefinitely.
So physics isn’t really an issue here, even aside from “it’s magic”.

so, unless the barrier can draw from environmental power sources indefinitely, which would make the thing an undefeatable perpetuum mobile,

That’s.. not what a perpetuum mobile is. If it can draw power from the environment there isn’t an issue. That’s no different from how you can have gadgets powered by solar power that “run forever” (until they break).
A perpetuum mobile as “forbidden-by-physics” concept is a closed system that keeps running while outputting more energy than goes in. But something like a heatpump that cools the environment (i.e. draws energy from it), and outputs more warmth than the electrical energy you put in, is fine.

            Hmm…sentient barriers, eh?

I’m not sure where you read that. Sounds interesting though.
I suppose, given the progress of artificial intelligence, there might be a magic equivalent. Especially if you look at it from the “conducting energy” point of view (a computer is just something that channels electrons very smartly, after all).

Hmm…must’ve missed the story of the medallion…I wasn’t really active in the comment section as of late.
            I’m sure you noticed.

There was a contest of sort to find out what book it was from, someone won original japanese pocky. And consequently we learned a few things about it as well.

Knocked out yes, but even in a knocked out state, the subconscious continues to work (otherwise we’d stop breathing if we get knocked out, which wouldn’t be all that healthy :P)

That’s not really what people usually call the subconscious. When you’re unconscious the autonomic nervous system continues to work, but there isn’t anything to decide, desire or feel anything.
So unless you thing the medallion detects physiological cues like high levels of adrenaline as emergency on-switch, I’m not buying it.

          • NotImportant

Mixing physics and magic rarely goes well, sigh. If current physics could explain magic effects from this story we would already have them – kids on playgrounds would be painting glowing lines in the sand. It’s not happening so we gotta assume that physics is not going to help here. You can still try to figure out the “system” by carefully observing what’s going on in the story. We still know too little to figure out every detail and bits and pieces we know don’t mingle well, we’ve got demons, some ancient spells and magic artifacts, hard to make it all work together right now haha

          • JW

And I agree that Stefen’s medallion is the best option but they have no idea about it and Stefen is not exactly eager to share his toys (if he even knows what they are planning).

Oh Stefen, didn’t your mommy teach you to share?

          • JW

Mixing physics and magic rarely goes well

That’s what makes it fun, like mixing random chemicals and see if it goes BOOM! 😛

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Wow that was a lot to read 😉

For now I’ll just add that their dialogue suggests that the former protection around the tent has stopped. This may support the hypothesis that she can only sustain one barrier at a time, regardless of its size.

        • NotImportant Reply

It does? It shouldn’t. They didn’t send anyone to check and as you can see Kasper is pretty reluctant to let anyone leave the current barrier (and they are not at the old camp anymore).

And Refugnic, your assumption about magic being like energy is very convenient but there is nothing supporting that assumption. I’ll just point out what you guys already noticed: Ada was complaining about a headache after creating the spell, Robert or Stefen never complained about anything after using their artifacts. Of course, there are various possible explanations for that, I’m just pointing out the holes 😛

          • JW

Robert’s swords might be feeding on the souls or their foes for sustenance, err, energy 😛

Don’t worry too much, though: in my experience English sometimes is a little bit ambiguous when it comes to expressing this past and ongoing situation. And I’m not sure I interpreted this at the beginning, I might have been mislead by our collective thoughts that the barrier might break if Ada casts the spell again and all that.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Rereading comments, because I didn’t read them all first time, I just found one of my earlier reactions where I indeed thought the shield was still on.

So nothing wrong here, just my understanding changing.

    • Refugnic Reply

Since we’ve had both Ada and Stefen in magical girl costumes now, I wonder what Sofia would look like.
I’d especially be interested in her facial expression…how was that book title? 50 shades of red? 😛

Still wondering who (or what) made Ada put on a costume like that. (Apparently without her noticing, cause otherwise she wouldn’t be so worked up about it)
Would probably make for a fun story.

“I wonder what Sofia would look like. I’d especially be interested in her facial expression…”

You know, i think there will be a time where Sofia will surprise us all, because she isnt what we might thought of her – i think beeing suttounded by Ada and Robert will change her over time 😉 – But for now, i think it will be an very interesting and cute expression 😛

        • NotImportant Reply

Do you guys have any costume in mind? 😀 Soon enough I’ll have material for a full blown dress up game if this continues lol

          • NiWo21k

For me its always a little bit difficult to give such ideas, i only come up with the more boring ones like the one i gave to the last page (NieR: Automata). But i think the idea with some of the Fate costumes would look nice or try something from “Fairy Tail” or the “Hyperdimension Neptunia” series 😀

          • NiWo21k

What i could see in some way:
            NieR:Automata – Ada as 2B / Robert as 9S / Nina as Anemone / Faust as Adam
Fate/Extra – Ada as Caster / Robert as Archer
Fate Stay Night – Sofia as Rider

          • Refugnic

I’m soooo out of my waters with this discussion.

I mean, I enjoy cute girls in games just as much as the next guy, but for some reason it’s not them (or their costumes) that come up when I remember the game/anime.

I guess I really am more of a plot person.

          • NotImportant

I pay a lot of attention to the visuals but that’s very natural for an artist ;D I’d explode with comments about the exceptional lighting or background while watching anime or fangirl over the character designs in a game.

          • NiWo21k

Oh you are not alone 😉
            For me its always – Characters > Plot > Sound/Synchro > Design > Graphics
And because i remember so many designs of characters has more to do with how much i like the characters at the end.

Just an example from my point of view: Fate/Extra is in most parts a boring dungeon grinder, but because of the characters i played through it two times. And checked out the TypeMoon Wiki were there is more backstory to them – and so they stuck in my head with everything and make it easier for such thing like these cosplay ideas…. – ok, i am going back into my dark corner now…..

          • Refugnic

I’m still holding out my hopes for a Yu-Gi-Oh style TCG with Replay characters.
            PC with multiplayer support obviously.

Nothing super fancy like 3D models, really, just close ups of the card illustrations and descriptions would do…okay, I’ll shut up now.

          • Tzaphqiel

I’ve got an idea or two, but I’m not sure how good they’d be, so sorry if my post is a bit too long.

There was a series from back in 2011 called “Dog Days” that was basically a world of kemonomimi characters in a pseudo-medieval setting that fought wars that were a combination of Final-Fantasy-esque Magic/Melee combat and Ninja Warrior/Takeshi’s Castle obstacle course. Added to that was that any (non-plot relevant) character that got hit with “lethal” damage would be turned into a furball (kind of like in the Replay logo). And, honestly, I’d kind of like to see some of the characters as furballs, if only because it would be amusing (maybe have a Robert furball as the mascot character in the Magical Guy series?).
Of course, with cosplaying as actual characters from the series, I would think maybe having Ada as Yukikaze (both foxes and, with as ludicrously popular as Yukikaze was with fans of the series, she’s probably the easiest character to find references for). Also, maybe Sofia as Leonmitchelli if only to embarrass Sofia. And for the contrast of putting the nervous girl in an outfit worn by a lioness.

Also, maybe a Replay/RWBY cosplay thing? It’s kind of hard to figure out some character combinations, since Ada would likely look good in any of those outfits, but Weiss probably fits Ada’s personality most closely. Also, Robert as Jaune would be funny.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Hah, I was about to bring up RWBY. (Actually yesterday, but I already had shut down my PC)

I don’t know what you feel like, NI, but if we are still talking cross-dressing cosplay, they have cool male outfits there.

Ada would do an awesome Qrow.
Roman would suit Sofia, I think.

          • NotImportant

I really need to watch RWBY some day, I feel like I’m missing out! And outfits from Dog Days are super cute as well, I didn’t know this series at all.

          • Tzaphqiel

RWBY is amazing (and up to four seasons now). And I’d have to agree that Ada in Qrow’s outfit would be cool. I just wish I could think of some suggestions for Nina or the other characters.
Also, I will warn you that Dog Days ramped up the fanservice in the second (and possibly) third seasons, which is why I couldn’t finish the second season. I still like the show itself, but I figured I’d mention that just for the sake of information.
I wish I could think of some other character mappings, if only because I’d rather not just throw a bunch of other series onto a page without at least some description or suggestion regarding who would look good as who.

          • NiWo21k

I just went through my book shelf and found something that i totally forgot and would work in so many ways with Ada 😛
            Shana from Shakugan no Shana

But also (how didnt i think about it earlier because this would even work better – Spice & Wolf – how could i forget my favorite story)
Ada as Holo (yes i know Fox / Wolf – we are talking about cosplay)
            Robert as Lawrence
            Sofia as Nora
I know that are more “normal” clothes but why not 😉

          • JW

If we drop looking for a theme to fit half the cast, I’d also throw in “to aru majutsu no index”/”to aru kagaku no railgun”, Sofia could be Index, Ada maybe Mikoto.

          • NiWo21k

I think there are so many posibillities out there – and i dont want to know whats going on in NIs head since we started with this list 😀 – i could also think of some mor obscure ones, but i thought lets leave it at the more known ones 😉

          • Klorix Camp dweller

            @Tzaphqiel
What’d you think of one of the dads (Tai or Ghira) for Nina, who is very caring.
And for Laura, I’d say Sun, because that fits her good-mooded nature, in my opinion.

          • Tzaphqiel

That’d be interesting, but there’d probably need to be some adaptations to the outfits if we went with the Nina as Ghira or Laura as Sun ideas, considering that both Ghira and Sun wear their shirts open.
I mean, I’ve seen some “genderswap” fanart of Sun that included a sarashi under the shirt to cover the chest, so it wouldn’t be impossible. I just don’t want to get too racy with the ideas.

        • Refugnic Reply

Have you read the fanfic featuring Sofia before she met the rest of the crew?
NI told me that I got her all wrong and stuff, but what can you do…I still don’t know jack about her, other that she has a major crush on Rob and will steal him from Ada if she doesn’t watch out.

Either way, she has yet to display any actual skills.
Other than look cute and innocent that is. She’s got that down.
But as they say: I’m only looking this innocent for the surprise to be greater.

          • NotImportant

It’s really hard to read all those comments and your ideas and guesses and stay silent 😡 Argh the urge to spoil you the plot for next 10 years is overpowering!

          • NiWo21k

NI dont you dare o.o — Stay strong, get something to relief the stress but dont spoil anything…….

          • NiWo21k

Yes, it always comes back 😀 – But it wasn’t only the picture itself it was a combination with what you wrote under it on patreon:

“Sofia used to attend yoga classes in the past. And that girl with a braid in her hair? That’s a certain more-than-a-friend to Sofia, I hope to make some extra comics about those two as well, one day 🙂 “

          • Refugnic

Haha, yeah, I’ve been told before that I’m a terrible person with that…poking around in the background with the longest stick I can find, hoping to one day find the spot where someone yells ‘Ow!’ 😉

          • JW

“Sofia used to attend yoga classes in the past. And that girl with a braid in her hair? That’s a certain more-than-a-friend to Sofia, I hope to make some extra comics about those two as well, one day “

You know, being reminded of that, I’m suddenly very curious what Sofia’s reaction would be to Robert dressed up as Madoka 😛
Hmm, maybe a gender-swapped Robert(a) would work even better.

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Oh, I love those doodles. I saw them on the Facebook page.

          • NotImportant

Gender swaps is another thing that needs to be drawn ლ(o◡oლ) The worst thing is that if I drew male Ada or female Adam I would need to… swap their names! There is a scene (in my mind) in which Adam agonizes about their names overlapping stupidly haha~

          • Refugnic

…and three thought steps later, I have a scene in front of my inner eye, where Ada tied Robert to some chair and enlisted Laura and Sofia to give him the full makeover experience for making fun of her getting dressed up.

Laura would probably be in it without a second thought and as for Sofia…shall we say that Ada can be very convincing if she wants to. 😀

Utensils shouldn’t be that hard to come by either, just around the corner where they go to scavenge for food and hygiene supplies.

          • NotImportant

How to pass the time during the apocalypse lol

          • JW

…and three thought steps later, I have a scene in front of my inner eye, where Ada tied Robert to some chair and enlisted Laura and Sofia to give him the full makeover experience for making fun of her getting dressed up.

I like the way you think… Even before I read “for making fun of her getting dressed up”. Like they need an excuse.

      • JW Reply

Still wondering who (or what) made Ada put on a costume like that. (Apparently without her noticing, cause otherwise she wouldn’t be so worked up about it)

Maybe she tried out a new spell in the middle of camp and the description was non-indicative of what it would actually do 😉
Or maybe it’s the “anything you require” spell at a time when they’re in desperate need of a magical girl and/or light entertainment.

        • NotImportant Reply

There are costumes-rentals in game centers here in Japan, you pay up and are free to try on any costume they have available, there’s a booth to change, mirrors and a camera that lets you add text and decorations to the photos. Do you seriously think that Robert would pass on that? Of course he’d drag her there xD

          • JW

And in a post-apocalyptic world they wouldn’t even need to pay the fee 😉

Though, I think you’re suggesting it happened when on the trip where they got the Katana. Seems plausible (but still non-canon, probably?)

          • NotImportant

Very much canon because why not, it fits perfectly haha, I imagine he had to bribe her into it but it still happened. He has a beautiful collection of photos on his phone (except the phone is now very ded).

          • NiWo21k

When they make their tour i think finding a solar charger could be possible – a smart phone will still have “usefull” features even if internet and telphon functions don’t work 😉

          • JW

That would be a great excuse for scrolling through some other costumes they tried out. All Ada/Robert cosplay could be canon 😛

      • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Sofia would very likely be very embarassed. She does seem to be the self-conscious type.

    • JW Reply

I finally realized something late last night.
While wearing his medallion, no one would notice if that’s how he usually walks around.

  4. NiWo21k Reply

Hey i never said it should be now….. It was just an idea, but if you are already working on a way to get everything more clearly arranged then i never said anything 😉

And poor Robert, its not what he thinks why they wont let him go 😉

    • JW Reply

I’m not sure what gives you that impression; I always got the impression he was capable enough when he tries.
Though I’d grant you he’s the most likely to be told to get lost 😛 (I mean, I certainly wouldn’t say that to cute girls, and Kasper can probably bench-press my weight, so if I was going to tell anyone to get lost, Robert’s the only logical choice.)

  5. Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Sofia is so cute worrying for Robert like that. But it’s also sad, because he’s all Ada’s.
    Conjecture? Prove me wrong!

“I’d rather have a threesome than let Julia have her way” kind of thing? XDDD

        • JW Reply

I think it would be more of a “better the rival you know ..” thing. They’ve gotten used to each-other a bit by now, so a fourth wheel would be more threatening, even though four wheels would make the bandwagon more stable.. err..

        • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Hey! Don’t make me responsible for your dirty thoughts. 😉

I was actually thinking of some Hunger Games-like temporary alliance…

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Just to clarify, I mean a non-lethal solution.

In my mind, this turns out to become a thrilling story of shifting conspiracies, or a hilarious harem story.
Of course, Robert is pretty oblivious to the girls’ doings 😀

          • NotImportant

Given that the original story didn’t have ANY romance plots it would be pretty hilarious to turn it into a harem now hahaha

          • JW

[..], or a hilarious harem story.
Of course, Robert is pretty oblivious to the girls’ doings

Ah, just like every other harem story then 😛
I guess it’s a universal law that the denser the object the greater the attraction (all things being equal, particularly volume).

          • Klorix Camp dweller

Yeah, well, I’m not creative one here 😉
Nevertheless it would be a harem story – with demons ;p

          • NiWo21k

If this becomes a harem story then i think we all will be wrong with the outcome, because i just cant image that NI would do a standard version of that, there has to be a twist involved… 😛

          • JW

I think most harem stories have a demon or ghost or angel or some sort of supernatural option. Though in this case the demons are most definitely not dating material.

          • JW

If this becomes a harem story then i think we all will be wrong with the outcome, because i just cant image that NI would do a standard version of that, there has to be a twist involved…

Like, the person the harem forms around gets ousted, and the harem forms a polyamorous commune?

Oh, why didnt i noticed it at first -.-
The way Ada and Kasper are framed at the beginning of this page – this looks like its direct from some poster with a VS. motive —

“The Duel of the year – Will Ada get her wish and get out into the demon overrun city to capture her internetcopy of her magic book or will Kasper be convincing enough to knock some sense into her – only on the Website of NotImportant”

Sorry, just sitting at home and not being able to do anything just lets me go crazy 😀

    • NotImportant Reply

Haha I did intend this to look like some sort of confrontation, glad it worked haha~ And you knoow she’ll get her way (since there is a whole “spells” section and all), the only interesting part is ‘how’ ლ(╹◡╹ლ) Because Stefen won’t give up his little toy, even if he knew about their problem and only Ada can leave the camp and live through the night outside the barrier.

      • NiWo21k Reply

Yes it worked – even if i was to blind and only saw it now -.- …. And why do i have the feeling this will involve some other person who has something to do with magic (even if he at the moment doesnt know it?) 😉

What amazes me even more, is that she reaches this without advertising her comic broadly (i try to remember how i found Replay, but i cant remember but it wasnt from the Top 100 Webcomic list) – this means her fanbase builds up mostly from recommandations from her fans, people who found her art and this list.

Nooo not true, Replay has $200 on Patreon and whatever is not spent on the server bills goes to ads, I advertise on Project Wonderful and buy Google ads as well. It’s not that peachy!

Good morning (in Japan) NotImportant. I’m still enjoying the page.
Had a busy week, but hope I did not miss any big secrets on this page.

So, other than that we have almost no clue about their magic, I am wondering what Kasper was going to say before being interrupted by Ada…

And I also think that Robert might have been a middle child, or – sad thought – an orphan for craving attention like that.

    • NotImportant Reply

He’s got an older brother who was a very successful person, actually! So you weren’t far, that creates a similar effect. But right he’s just lowering the general tension of the conversation 😛
And Kasper… You know, I had it noted somewhere, but I made that page 5 weeks ago and I forgot/lost the note. Probably something like: “there’s no difference, we still don’t know the time limit”.

    • Dragon Master Reply

Faust looks disturbingly good dressed like that. And I can totally see him fucking around with the time stream just to get his wish granted.
Also I like his hair style in this drawing.

      • JW Reply

hmm. I think he should have had his hair loose, like Homura. Would have brought out the bishi even more 😛

        • NotImportant Reply

Omg xD The pattern on his hair is so weird that I never actually attempted to draw his with his hair loose.

  11. Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Oh, NotImportant, while backtracking to reread their argument, I saw a detail that might be an error: Ada’s gloves vanished.

Now, don’t panic! Nobody seemed to have noticed, or at least it didn’t disturb anyone. We probably were all dazzled by all the beauty in every single page that we lost track of the whole picture. 🙂

You can now decide whether you want to change that or not. You can also delete this post if you do not wish to draw attention to this. (You can, right?)

So, have a nice day nonetheless!

So how are they keeping Renate’s body preserved for future resurrection? And did they remember to bring her weirdly shaped red glasses? Very important.
