Coincidences

Surprise! She already knows Robert. Where from? Oh, you’ll see in a couple of pages, don’t worry~ That angry, badass Robert on the right-bottom panel, oh yes. And I like that sparkly background behind her happy face, she looks as if she won a prize of some sort. Sorry Sophia… your prize is already taken ¯\_(シ)_/¯

If you want to know how’s my life lately – master thesis is going smoothly for now, hopefully I’ll submit the script next week yay! But keep those fingers crossed, just in case. I’ll be in trouble if I don’t manage to submit it quickly. Because you see, after submission it will need 21 days before I can have the final exam. And on 23rd of April I’m going to Tokyo for a month so… I really, really want to pass that exam before going! (ノ・∀・)ノ

What about you? Any plans for the incoming week? ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

Didn’t expect that she would know him from school (or work? looks more like school to me).
But dayum this sparkly/happy Sophia looks amazing and cute… aaaand kinda scary… 😀 (yandre much? :P)

It’s freaking difficult to write some text on your smartphone with your fingers crossed ;P (I really tried! lol) but good luck with your thesis, exam and such! I’d also try my hardest to complete it if i were planning to make a trip to Tokyo! :0 *jealous
I gotta complete some presentation-stuff for my “final exam” (Abitur in german=highest possible grade? after 13 years of school, since elemantary)
It’s nothing compared to your thesis thought 😀

      (yandre much? :P)

Yandere? I don’t think Sophia is psychotically crazy enough to qualify. I suppose you can’t always tell, but I doubt it.

      • SirTrojan Reply

I never took it for granted. 😛
Just a random guess based on the look on her face and all the horror and hardships she’s most likely been through.
Now that i look at it in daylight and on my computer screen I can’t even find anything scary to it anymore 😉 she looks just really happy.
But I can still imagine her turning yandre on robert. xD

Thanks Sir Trojan! Good luck to you as well! 😀
And Sofia is a person of many faces, look forward to them huhuhu~

      • SirTrojan Reply

        Thanks aswell!
We certainly haven’t seen enough of her to make an more or less accurate guess on her personality,
so I’m really thrilled to see more of her and her faces ;D

My guess as to why Rob looks less happy before the apocalypse is that he didn’t get to run around killing demons with a cute girl. Any dude would be ecstatic if you told them they got to go around killing demons with a super cute sidekick. The reason everyone looks so glum around the camp is because they don’t get to kill demons, or have a hot partner. Obviously!

    • JW Reply

Hey, who’re you calling a sidekick? Obviously Robert’s the sidekick / comic relief, and Ada is the heroine.

    • NotImportant Reply

I love this explanation lol, regardless of who is the sidekick and who’s not~ Robert simply knows how to enjoy the experience, without getting depressed about the world going to hell.

      • Adriano Reply

        Good luck for your exam!!

I know I would enjoy killing demons with a super hot redhead o/

I know I would enjoy killing demons with a super hot redhead o/

Well, it’s definitely better that getting eaten by demons, or killing demons on your own, I guess. But I can think of better thing to do with the company of a super hot redhead.
Heck, eating chocolate with a super hot redhead already sounds better to me than killing demons. I suppose if it comes to choosing between eating chocolate alone or killing demons with a super hot redhead, it’s a bit of a toss-up; depends on whether it rains.

        • NotImportant Reply

Thanks Adriano! And JW, don’t you dream about the adventure? Come on! 😀

          • JW

Yeah, but the thing is, in my dreams I’m invulnerable, but not so much in reality.
Ok, fine, sure, there’s no demons in the real world (as far as anyone has been able to convincingly argue/prove/demonstrate), so we’re not really talking about reality, but still.
And even then, of all the things you could do together… I’m pretty sure Ada would prefer a night to the movies to a night of demon slaying. If only to get away from the daily grind.

          • NotImportant

I feel so conflicted. If I was sure about my abilities I’d rather go slaying demons (much more fun), but if had only a cooking knife at hand and the world suddenly went to hell…. fine, movies win, eh!

      • antrik Reply

@JW it should be noted that the adrenaline rush is a good way to build excitement for whatever other activity you would want to enjoy with a hot red-head. (Or a hot any-colour-head really, for that matter.)

Don’t you mean, “If you want to know,” not “If you what to know”?

      • Dæmon Reply

Haha! Yeah, grammar can be a right pain in the ass, huh? Still, I hope your thesis and exam go well. I normally get three pages or more out of a one page essay, and I think my record has now stretched to going onto a third page for a _one paragraph_ essay. I had to let the teacher k is and ask what to do. Now it’s becoming a three page or more essay on the Gettysburg Address. That’s a lot of analysis for a one paragraph essay. Of course, I’m only looking at getting an animation certificate program, so that’s one to two years college tops, with potentially a third of that completed before I ever set foot on campus as a full student.

        • NotImportant Reply

It was just a typo, pff 😛 And thanks, I hope you wishes will help me fight off the stress hah. And my thesis is really mostly equations, so I wouldn’t call it an essay. And of course good luck with your education as well!

          • Dæmon

Well, I always use breathing exercises. They work for me to the point that I almost fell asleep at the dentist, multiple times in one appointment.

I didn’t expect that Sofia knew Robert, but surprises make stories interesting. And, of course, it’s always nice to see that happy face of hers.

Best of luck with the submission and the exam. I’ll be busy working on running some test simulations, proctoring an exam (and grading the exams), finding a job, and possibly re-running my disseration analysis after having realized that I screwed it up too badly for it to be included in the publication based on said dissertation, but I’ll be wishing you the best of luck all the same.

    • NotImportant Reply

Seems you are very busy as well, good luck with everything! Do you mind sharing the topic of your work?

      • Tzaphqiel Reply

        Sure thing.
The simulations are for trying to identify a Bayesian statistical model that provides a more efficient (less variable) estimate of a population mean (from an otherwise arbitrary source) than the current design-based estimates, though a lot of it is going to focus on rearranging my notation, getting the right LaTeX style files, and finding closed-form solutions to various matrix equations to avoid having to take up a lot of memory in R.
The paper based on my dissertation details a Bayesian hierarchical model (with priors specified poorly enough to make the “hierarchical” design effectively moot, unfortunately) of reaction time in perception/memory tasks intended to determine if people do or do not “chunk”, or combine, two features into a single object when committing said object to memory. I really screwed up the analysis on it, to the point that one of the two models (the one that takes about 10 to 12 hours to run per experiment) can’t be included in the final paper at all.

In more comic-relevant news: I’m definitely rooting for Sofia! :3

        • NotImportant Reply

To cheer you up – my friend, who is also working with complicated models and large amount of data was calculating stuff for almost hal of a year (sic!) and had to dump everything and start from scratch because of a stupid error no one could see before it was too late. Damn, I’m glad I didn’t pick up anything with heavy computations, I already spent a lot of time on that thing…
But your topic sounds interesting! I guess everything that’s somehow related to how the brain and memory works interests me… I can only wish you good luck, I never had much love for statistics for some reason. Maybe because it upsets me that sometimes it is ‘the only thing we have left’.

          • Tzaphqiel

Thanks for the encouragement. I definitely feel sorry for your friend. I’ve never completely lost any data (I came close by almost writing conclusions without checking all of the diagnostics properly beforehand and had to rerun all four of those 10-hour analyses, but nothing that big), and I know how bad really big computation problems can be when they fail (my lab senior ran a simulation check that took two-weeks of continuous computation time and the analyst for a collaboration I was on that is still up in the air takes requires two-weeks of continuous computation time per subject to analyze the data). And I’m glad that you find the idea interesting, even if it’s not a particularly dazzling bit of research like the studies that tend to grab news headlines.

Beyond that, I’d also like to say that I really like that new picture of Sofia you posted on Twitter, especially with those glasses.

          • NotImportant

            Hehe thanks~ ;D
Truth is, if you want to become a scientist you need to learn how to find seemingly boring things interesting because those ‘news-headlines-topics’ will be out of reach for most of your career. So one needs to keep an open mind haha, I’ve seen too many young, depressed scientists.
And long computations are always troublesome. Given enough time anything can happen, eugh…

    • Dæmon Reply

WOW, that sounds hard! As for Sophie, or Sophia, if you prefer that, I think a picture of her full figure in whatever pose she’s in on the bottom panel might be Interesting. Still, that’s more up to you, and somehow reminds me of the sticker ideas I recommended. Have you thought about it much? I mean, lately it may have been hard, but I’m just curious as to how much you liked the idea of the other stickers, like the storytelling ones, more characters, and probably some of the random people we see here and there, plus maybe the pizza guy firing his gun. Who knows, maybe someone could create the whole scene at the beginning of the story in an interesting way. Anyway, I keep rambling on lately. Sorry if I talk to much, everyone. I just seem to talk a lot, and can’t really stop.

      • NotImportant Reply

Yeah, I’m thinking about stickers, among all other super cool things I’d like to do haha. But yeah, lack of time. After master thesis and that trip, maybe…? Not sure what will seem like the most fun thing to do. But I haven’t forgotten about those!

        • Dæmon Reply

Meh. I’m just waiting for something funny to happen right now. I mean, I _am_ kinda bored with life, and grades need some work, too. Luckily, the community college I’m going to offers full programs too, so if I say, “I’d like to start with a certificate program and see if I can get a job”, my counselor said they should let me back in if I ask. Plus, we’re talking 5000 dollars tops, so not much to pay off. As for the stickers and stuff I kind of wonder what would happen if you made magnets that were something like a table of characters preforming certain actions. It could be pretty funny, and could draw more attention to the comic on Facebook and Twitter. It’d be pretty funny for at least some of the potential combos, like Ada chasing Robert with her longsword (or katana depending on when those get done, and if you decide on the longsword or not), or Stefan shooting a demon again, or… Anything to do with the main characters, really. I mean, some combos of the other characters would be at least potentially funny, but Ada and Robert running around first comes to my mind.

  5. Refugnic Reply

Hmm, I guess my initial guess was correct, although it was for a different reason than I had thought.

Well, these characters do have a past, so it’s absolutely valid that some of them have known each other before the story.
I guess she didn’t recognize him before, because he had his back to her at the time and didn’t say anything (add to that her state of panic)

Regarding the ‘taken price’…well, not necessarily. At least it’s not set in stone.
There’s a myriad of examples of one partner of a relationship reorienting themselves after hitting a wall in their current relationship one time too often.
Or with other words, I do consider Sofia an apt competitor against Ada, so she should better watch out or else her guy just might go away.

…though I guess that might be bad, because the blades are technically his and even if they split them, it’s hard to survive a demon onslaught without somebody you can trust to have your back at all times.

    • NotImportant Reply

Yeah, you are right, she still has a chance with Rob, especially when Ada + Rob works more like a siblings relationship now (at least that’s what I more or less tried to show) but who knows, who knows… Looking at her happy face she’ll be quite determined to get close to the only person she knows in the whole camp~

      • Refugnic Reply

Not just ‘the only person she knows’, but also ‘the person who saved her butt earlier’.
I know it’s a stereotype, but in times like these it’s actually objectively a good idea to stick close to people, who can (and will) protect you.

Of course, with Ada having a bit of a short fuse, Sofia just might be more endangered from her than from the demons if she tries to enter Rob’s closer orbit.

But then of course that would challenge Ada to actually explain her reasons for disliking her competitor…and that means admitting her feelings.
So yeah, nothing like some healthy competition over a rare commodity (seeing how there’s only one Robert, I’d call that ‘rare’ :P) to get things moving a little.

But then of course all of that implies that Ada is even interested in Robert that way.
If not, good for you, Sofia. 🙂

        • NotImportant Reply

I’m afraid that ‘what Ada feels towards Robert’ is a mystery to everyone, Ada included 😀 But I should shut up before I say too much.

          • Dæmon

Isn’t there a stereotype of Tsundere’s not admitting their own feelings to themselves for a large part of the series, or at least the first season, so that they realize it and then it all just comes together? I honestly don’t understand the emotion of love all that much, so any clarification would be nice. Still, I think I hit at least a couple of details with that anime stereotype. Then again, I watch romance in the form of either rom coms, or action romance anime. I don’t even think I have WATCHED a non anime romance anything, to be honest.

          • JW

Yeah, denying her own feelings (or being unaware of them) would be stereotypically tsundere.
I don’t think Ada really qualifies for tsundere status, though; she doesn’t beat Robert up enough 😛

          • NotImportant

I didn’t want to go all the way to the stereotype (character would be too flat) so she at least understands that he is a precious companion. Ahhh I’d like to tell you everything but… that’s would destroy the story ლ(ಠ益ಠლ) This is so hard sometimes… Ugh, you’ll have to wait and see just how much of a clueless tsundere she is!

          • JW

Hmm, I don’t think going full tsundere would necessarily make a character flat. But I also don’t think it would fit this story very well.
I’m sure there’s some other classification that fits Ada better than tsundere, though. (Or maybe this is one of the edge-cases where people don’t agree on what a word means.)

          • NotImportant

It would make her flat in a sense that it would become super easy to predict her actions. It wouldn’t strip her of a chance to evolve and change (so not a lost cause haha). But yeah, she is simply too old to act like a kid and pretend she doesn’t give a damn about her best friend ಠ_ಠ

          • Dæmon

“Lose cause” meaning “loose cannon,” or, “lost cause”? And, to be honest, I think her as at least a partial tsundere makes sense, since while I agree she can’t just be ” a child” as you put it, I can easily imagine her either pulling a prank on Robert, or still beating him up. Hence, why I said on another comment that I think it’s be funny to see him chased by Ada (mostly from trying to imagine e how he messed up so badly), and I do think she may also try something that we still consider “childish,” or “reckless” just to show how she felt about a statement or other action. That last bit was worded badly. Let me try again in a bit. I need to gather my thoughts and see exactly where the comment I mentioned was.

          • Dæmon

I can’t figure out a better way to say that last part. There’s probably a way, but I don’t know how. I guess reckless really means something that is dangerous, but only if it goes too far or they get caught, like a silly prank that may go too far. Childish, I’m not quite as sure. I mean, I only recognize the behaviors, I can’t predict them or think of them on my own. The main problem being that I can’t seem to understand humans. I mean, people don’t make sense.

I guess, really, I should say “those words pretty much mean any sort of behavior that fits the stereotype and the words”, but I’m just not sure that it’s that simple. As far as I can tell, a tsundere tends to make either rash decisions, or beats up the person they have affectionns for. As for something like Yandere, they tend to be the creepy stalker type. Of course, there are other types, but I don’t know the names or terms. Man, it’s kinda rough not being able to tell people apart by behavior, since, as I said, all I can do is recognize it. It would take a great deal of time and effort for me to isolate a pattern or rhythm in order to identify an individual or their behaviors.

Still, I suppose my choice of, ” The less I can associate with humans, the better” may help me now, while in school, where most people for some reason tend toward the end of th e spectrum labeled asshole, but after that, what comes next? I mean, I don’t really WANT to associate with people, yet I will have to all my life as long as I stay in any society.

It’s kind of painful for me. I mean, I can’t build trust with people as much as I want, but I also get annoyed at over use of stereotypes (which I can usually understand, if there is a valid reason like a new character, and they’re an original character specific to the medium or reboot or whatever), but I sometimes fall I to the same trap, and end up having to rewrite part or all of a story just so I don’t become a racist, by ACCIDENT. I know I’m a hypocrite, and I know I try to back my words, but it usually ends up being turned against me for things I may not even have any control over, like my physical features, my birth defects, plus my mind, or parts if it, aren’t exactly all about environmental influence versus heredity. I mean, above average intelligence plus literalism, plus almost no way to understand anything less logical than a Vulcan, and it ends pretty badly with most people. Most people don’t understand, may refuse to, and some may be misled. I don’t know, man. It’s all so hard to say.

          • NotImportant

To be honest I’ve never met a typical tsundere or yandere person haha, those are just stereotypes for anime/manga characters. And that part about people not making sense – emotions are irrational + more often than not we are pushed to action by our feelings = there is little sense in what we do. And this is just how people are. Stupid, irrational, crazy, completely absurd and you either get annoyed that you can’t comprehend the world you live in or just enjoy the variety and chaos~

          • JW

People do make sense, mostly. They may be irrational (depending on how you define it), but in a fairly predictable way. Very few people are random-crazy.
If I kick someone in the shins, it’s not hard to predict their change in emotion (shock followed by anger), or their resulting change of behaviour towards me (shouting, possibly violence and future avoidance). And con-artists wouldn’t have so much success scamming people if people weren’t so utterly predictable.
Maybe people’s behaviour is not what you’d consider optimal, but if you’ve thought deeply about what would be considered optimal, you’d probably realize it isn’t. Because determining an optimal course of action takes time and energy, and knowledge and decision-making ability, none of which are in unlimited supply. Basically, nature has done the best it could under the circumstances. Emotions are just a shortcut to modifying behaviour in a way that has (evidently) provided some evolutionary benefit in the past.
Studying people from that perspective makes a lot more sense of people’s behaviour and shortcomings. It’s hardly random, crazy or absurd.

As for rational vs irrational. Consider the classic prisoners dilemma:

Two members of a criminal gang are arrested and imprisoned. Each prisoner is in solitary confinement with no means of communicating with the other. The prosecutors lack sufficient evidence to convict the pair on the principal charge. They hope to get both sentenced to a year in prison on a lesser charge. Simultaneously, the prosecutors offer each prisoner a bargain. Each prisoner is given the opportunity either to: betray the other by testifying that the other committed the crime, or to cooperate with the other by remaining silent. The offer is:

If A and B each betray the other, each of them serves 2 years in prison
If A betrays B but B remains silent, A will be set free and B will serve 3 years in prison (and vice versa)
If A and B both remain silent, both of them will only serve 1 year in prison (on the lesser charge)

Classical “rational” behaviour would be that each prisoner considers that “all things being equal I’m better off betraying the other either he betrays me and I get 2 instead of 3 if I betray him, or he doesn’t betray me and I get 0 instead of 2 years” So they both betray the other and get trapped in the suboptimal situation (sum-total 4 years in prison, instead of 3 or 2).
If they’re irrationally loyal and go against their “self-interest”, they get the optimal outcome.
But also, if one of the prisoners is irrationally vengeful and will undoubtedly, most certainly eviscerate the other prisoner after they get out of prison even if he gets caught and sent to jail for life. Then the other prisoner will probably also not betray him. And so you also get the optimal outcome.

Classically speaking, the last case is highly irrational, because you stand nothing to gain by revenge after the fact. Getting revenge won’t change that you were betrayed and spent time in jail, and in fact incurs you an extra cost of more jail time. But sometimes being predictably irrational pays. Sometimes it makes rational sense to be irrational.

          • NotImportant

All true! I just didn’t want to discourage Dæmon, since it takes some time to figure our other people. So the only thing I wanted to convey was: if you want to understand other people, first accept that they might not think in the same way you do.

On a different note: one of my friends was cheated on by her new boyfriend. Since they relationship was fresh and she was under the impression that this guy made a mistake of going into a relationship instead of simply being friends, she chose to forgive the idiot and stay on the friendly terms because she enjoyed chatting with him. He couldn’t comprehend, freaked out and was convinced she is secretly plotting revenge. Oh well…

          • JW

damnit, I screwed up the closing blockquote tag.

            Also, tl;dr version:
People may be irrational, but that doesn’t mean they’re unpredictable/don’t make sense, and being irrational isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

          • NotImportant

Sometimes they don’t make sense, at the first glance. But if you take the emotions into account when you try to figure out their pattern of thoughts it’s easier. Not everyone can empathize (or bother to do it), so even if *you* can predict people’s behavior well it doesn’t mean others can. I didn’t mean to discourage or insult humans haha, I meant to say it’s okay to not understand people. After all some of us need a lifetime to figure out they don’t even understand themselves.

          • JW

the only thing I wanted to convey was: if you want to understand other people, first accept that they might not think in the same way you do.

They should really teach that in schools. If people could just learn that, it would prevent so much suffering and problems.
Although, even knowing that, it’s still hard to live by it. (In the heat of the moment, “knowing better” often goes out the window.)

He couldn’t comprehend, freaked out and was convinced she is secretly plotting revenge. Oh well…

Maybe she should just kick him in the shins to “settle it”, if that helps him get some closure.
After all, punishment is not meant just to settle things for the “victim”, but also for the culprit. (“victim” in quotes because I get the impression she doesn’t strongly identify as victim.)

so even if *you* can predict people’s behavior well it doesn’t mean others can.

Oh, I’m terrible at predicting human behaviour; or at least am terribly insecure about it. However, I’ve learned that that’s more to do with me than with other people.
I like to think I’ve learned a fair bit about it from books, but that only really helps in offline mode, so after the fact rather than as it’s happening. But I find comfort in not thinking all people around me are crazy. I might not always get why they do what they do while they’re doing it, but at least it’s not fundamentally incomprehensible.

I suppose what I mostly wanted to convey is that if you don’t understand people, but want to, it’s not a lost cause. It may take some effort to get beneath that veneer of people-don’t-make-sense, but underneath they do make a bit of sense. There’s lot of good pop-psychology books on the subject.

          • NotImportant

I am agree about the kick! And about everything else, in fact. And out of curiosity – any books on the subject which you could recommend? I like reading things from around psychology.

          • JW

Probably the most practically useful book that I’ve read would be “Mistakes were made (but not by me)”. It directly applies to relating with other people. I’m just gonna steal the description from wikipedia here:

It deals with cognitive dissonance, confirmation bias and other cognitive biases, using these psychological theories to illustrate how the perpetrators (and victims) of hurtful acts justify and rationalize their behavior. It describes a positive feedback loop of action and self-deception by which slight differences between people’s attitudes become polarized.

It’s important to note though, that in a fight with someone it doesn’t help to point out which cognitive biases they’re suffering from 😉

Another one I’ve read more recently is “Thinking, Fast and Slow”, which posits that the mind uses two systems for decision making: a fast intuitive one, and a slow, logical, deliberate, -and above all lazy- one. This is then used to explain a number of cognitive biases like e.g. availability bias (estimating how likely something is by how easy it is to think of an example), and substituting easier questions for hard ones: e.g. “which candidate would make the best president” becomes “which candidate do I like”.

“Sleights of mind” and “The Invisible Gorilla” deal with perception biases, the latter is named after a famous experiment where people trying to count the number of passes of a ball fail to notice a man in a gorilla suit walking through the scene. And “Sleights of mind” explains some basics about how magic tricks work by “hacking” the limitations and biases of our brains.

And if (like me) you often find yourself frustrated by the ridiculous things people believe in, I can recommend “The Believing Brain”. One of the interesting observations (I’m pretty sure it was at least by the same author, Michael Shermer, if not from this book), is that intelligent people can sometimes believe weirder stuff than anyone else, because they are better at rationalizing/defending their beliefs. Which also ties in with the confirmation bias, because looking for reasons to believe something comes more naturally than looking for reasons why you shouldn’t.

Thank you so much! I’m making a list of books I want to read after I’m done with my thesis, adding those to the top. Ah, can’t wait..! I got tired of reading about numerical methods and weather prediction problem.
Feel free to let me know if you stumble upon any other interesting books in the subject ◉‿◉

I’m glad we agree that it would be too boring to let those two just figure it out themselves haha, nothing quite like a nice competition to spice things up~

          • Refugnic

On a slightly different note, I noticed something.

The only place, where Sophie is spelled ‘Sofia’ seems to be the cast page these days.

Though I guess at that point in time she’s like me and just absentmindedly corrects the misspelling and doesn’t really bother any more.
If anything it gets a smile out of her, because the person who misspelled really should know better by now.

Just a little something of little importance. 😛

          • NotImportant

I really should change it to the regular ‘Sophia’, it creates too much confusion…

          • Dæmon

Meh. Sophie is probably more popular, or at least the more noticed form, judging by the comments. Granted, I spent almost all of last week away from. the comments, but I’m pretty sure the demographic won’t suddenly pull a one eighty at this point in time.

I’m afraid that ‘what Ada feels towards Robert’ is a mystery to everyone, Ada included But I should shut up before I say too much.

I fear you already *did* say too much there… While it’s not exactly a surprising revelation, it certainly does limit the option space for speculation quite a bit. [sniff]

        • NotImportant Reply

Don’t worry, I change my mind quite often about those things hahaha. There are no romance plots in the written original so I add those events as I go.

      • antrik Reply

@NotImportant regarding Sofia, I for my part don’t think you should change the name. Since all the names use Polish variants, I think it would be more confusing if one suddenly deviated from this… And I think it’s an interesting touch 🙂

What about you? Any plans for the incoming week? ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ

Just the same thing as every week – try to take over the world! 😛

      • Refugnic Reply

You call that busy? I know two mice, who try the same thing every single evening!
Now that’s what I call loading up their plate. 😀

Okay, they never succeeded up to now, so JW may be on the right track with taking a little bit more time with that endeavor. 🙂

        • JW Reply

Yeah, honestly, I don’t try very hard. I wouldn’t want to inherit the mess of my predecessors.

          • Dæmon

So, if you DO get the world, can I have a portion to rule? I mean, if a teenager can figure out at least SOME reasonable way to get people to get along, which I might add that our world leaders either have little or no capacity and/or ability to help spread peace, then I think we need a system upgrade. Then again, I kind of hope most days that the third world war starts, and at this point in the US Presidential Debates, I think Donald Trunp could be a likely catalyst, given what I know of his policies, which is some research, some news, and some secondhand information.

          • JW

So, if you DO get the world, can I have a portion to rule?

Maybe. But I kinda already forgot which parts I promised to which other people, so I’d need to work that out first. With any luck they’ve forgotten as well, so everything would be up to grabs, but you never know. I really should have kept a list.
(It’s the same with people I’ve sworn revenge against, I really should have kept a list.)

          • NotImportant

I always felt like revenges were a waste of time ಠ_ಠ

          • Dæmon

Revenge is a waste of time, huh? Yeah, I agree (though, there ARE a few people I’d like to mangle still), but in a shooter game, revenge kills are an actual thing, so in a shooter, trying to kill that jerk who keeps being a dick is kind of a norm for some gamers.

          • JW

I think whether revenge is a waste of time depends on how much enjoyment you get out of it, and on whether it sends a sufficiently strong signal to anyone else that might cause you problems.
But in both respects there’s also something to be said for “a life well lived is the best revenge”.

          • NotImportant

I suppose I’m trying to live by that principle. Maybe because I realize that people who angered me are just unfortunate individuals who were unable to act differently and should be pitied.

          • Refugnic

I also want to believe in that. I mean, what’s the point in holding a grudge for years and years?

I like to remember the story of the Count of Monte Christo in that regard, who spent the better years of his freedom plotting his revenge.

And at the end? What did he gain? He only caused more suffering, more anguish and pain.
But the years that had been taken from him did not return. And neither will the years he spent taking vengeance.

So yeah, unless they insist on making you miserable for whatever reason, I’m not one for holding grudges.
I just steer clear of them and be done with it.

Unfortunately, in that world of theirs, ‘steering clear of their adversaries and be done with it’, isn’t really an option.
But for those cases, there is always still good old violence, am I right? 😛

Well that’s an adorably manga-like face.
And what a coincidence. She already knows Robert, from school by the looks of the third picture. It doen’t seem all too friendly though. But maybe Robert was just grumpy.

  8. antrik Reply

Well, *of course* Robert was less happy before the apocalypse… Who wouldn’t, working a boring corporate nine-to-five?… 😉

  9. Jordan Reply

Shipped. I love when romances are straight forward. Leave that angst-y, “But I don’t know how I feel”, stuff for the teenagers! (╯° O°)╯︵ ┻━┻

She says, “Shadow from the past” like if it had been years but it hadn’t even been 12 hours

  11. Refugnic Reply

Is that…my heart! It couldn’t be!
    My prince in dirty socks!
A shadow from a past, so free!
For fate and death he mocks!

Familiar face from times gone by,
    please never leave my side.
I am so happy, I could cry,
    screw this foolish pride.

Here look at me, please notice me!
    Do you recall at all?
Please hear my heart, please heed my plea,
    Without you I will fall.

But who is that, there next to you?
    A hindrance, red and green?
A memory, a shade of blue,
    she’s pretty and she’s mean.

Regardless though, I will not quit,
you’ll see me, mark my words!
Can’t you see, a perfect fit?
And then I’ll share your shirts…
