Beaten down

I hope you guys are hanging in there~ ๏◡๏

Not much to say this week. I finally managed to make a page on time so I’m not behind the schedule anymore, yay! Move-out took some time away from me (as expected) but things should be pretty much back to normal from now on. I’ll probably work on some extra illustration in my spare time (check the gallery if you haven’t seen the one from yesterday!) and maybe some extra comics for vote incentives. I miss the color though, so illustrations will most likely win hehe…

I’m reading Sanderson’s Storm Archives right now and boy, those books are simply delicious! Watched Ore no Nounai Sentakuchi ga… blah blah, because I liked the artbook I bought in Akihabara last week but that anime was… Hm, let’s just say that if we knew each other personally I’d probably never admit I laughed from time to time, okay? Weird idea, low-budget execution, cute art. Not recommended?… And I started ReLife but can’t say much yet. More time for watching since my shoulder started to complain about me changing working desks and I need breaks while drawing :c

And thank you for the votes! Replay’s high position on TWC is the main source of new readers so big thanks!

Also: I’ll send a pack of Pocky to the first person to recognize Stef’s pendant. It’s a real thing, it’s not made up ʘ‿ʘ

…..gah, I’m pretty sure I should know what that coin…pendant thing is… it looks so damn familiar 😐
I hope we have some more cute coming up in the comic ahead at some point. Don’t just go all dark and grim on me for the rest of forever without warning.
Ore no nounai… whatever you said was actually kind of enjoyable haha XD and I enjoyed reLife quite a bit.

I enjoyed ReLife as well. I hope they’ll make a sequel, if only to resolve the obvious (ship ship ship..)

It’s been a while since I watched “Ore no Nōnai Sentakushi ga, Gakuen Love Come o Zenryoku de Jama Shiteiru” (I looked up the full title, no way I’d remember all that). I don’t remember it as being notably good or bad; mostly I remember “erabe”, “erabe”, “erabe”. Not the most efficient way to learn a single word a Japanese, but then I didn’t take much more than “kininarimasu” from from Hyōka* either; apparently my conversion rate for anime-to-Japanese-vocabulary is horrible.

*) I’d forgotten the title, but luckily you can just google “kininarimasu anime” and the right one comes up.
Hmm, I wonder if “desu desu anime” will bring up Rosen Maiden.. … Nope, Kiniro Mosaic (including a 10 hour loop on youtube).

    The carnage continues.

The coin reminds me of a cartoon I watch as a kid called “Mysterious Cities of Gold” but they probably based it on a real thing I’m not aware of…

I watched it too! I don’t remember much now but I know I loved the show.

That sun has a really “I don’t know nutthin’ and I’m not telling ya” face

The pendant kind of reminds me of the watch from Noir, but that was a relief of 2 maidens instead…

Again, i love the atmosphere on these pages – the first one is just great – It just has this apocalypse feeling to it.

And take breaks when you need them, if a part of your body says stop, then do it, i sadly know some people who havent heard on the signs and have noe some serious problems in some regards :-/

And the pendant, i saw something similiar sometime on a coin collecting site – no i dont collect them but i know someone who does…..

I think it looked something like this:

That coin looks similar, I give you that! But it’s not what he carries around on his neck.
And don’t worry, the shoulder-pain comes whenever I change my working desk and goes away once my body adjusts to the new position. But it might be that this time the desk is just unbearable and I’ll need to replace it eh xD
Glad you like the pages! I was really worried how they’ll turn out and if you guys would enjoy them.

You have to think it this way: Your body is just saying: “How dare you change your workspace this much, i will strike now for some time” 😀

What i love about these whole pages since the attack on the camp is how you did them:
First we have these pages in the night where Ada and Rob fight for the lives of all the people in the tent and at the end there is hope because Ada made the protection spell work, and on the other hand we have the day part with shining sun and singing bird but with a feeling of dispair with all the destruction and dead people (especially the part with Renate and Stefen).

You just got this contrast spot on. We are happy what happend during the night but we are also sad with the endresult – and even if she wasnt a main character she was a character that we liked (and thats something thats not very often in fiction, that we even root for the side characters) – so yeah again fantastic job on these pages 😉

Thank you so much..! (‘∀’●)♡ I just hope I won’t tire you guys with all the grim lol, but those who support Replay on Patreon will see a cuter page next week. We’ll soon change the mood to a brighter one.

            Your welcome:-)

Grim is not bad as long it makes sense and its not just a tool 😉
But looking forward what you have up your sleve for us.

You should read all of Brandon Sanderson’s books. Most are linked in a massive cosmos where you will see character’s that have the ability to world hop in multiple different books. He is one of the best authors of all time. Especially with how fast he puts out books.

    • NotImportant Reply

I know, I’m living with a big fanboy of his haha and I do enjoy his books so I’ll keep reading. Just have to dose them so that I still keep drawing the comic instead of reading all day…

  7. Heeheh Reply

Hey this might seem kind of weird, oh great author, but would you mind putting the navigation bar at the top of the page as well? Sometimes I’m not able to read this for a long period of time, and it’s not fun scrolling back through all the spoilers.

I don’t know how difficult this is so pls ignore if it’s hard to do

      • antrik Reply

        Apparently you didn’t remember… 😛

Personally, I don’t have all that much use for an extra pair of next/previous links (especially since there is cursor key navigation — though on a tangential note, I’m *not* actually a fan of that…); on the other hand, I repeatedly do get perplexed at the lack of an archive link in the top navigation…

Hmm. At a guess some kind of zodiac pendant.
Possible effect of unremarkablity for demons, Like how those cloaks worked in The Return of the King.
If it Was fictional I would be tempted to say Pirates’ cursed gold and zombie Stefan just for effect.

Once done with Brandon Sanderson’s other books pick up ‘Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection’ but Only after.

For another anime that may be enjoyed, something tactical: Alderamin on the Sky

Ok, I can’t ever pass up a challenge to the Google Fu.

In this case, the hardest part was determining which set of words to use. Sun Seal Pendant was enough to bring it up in the first image entry.

You, Sir, wear an “Invisibility” pendant. One which should mask you from anyone (or thing) that isn’t specifically looking for you.

    http://www.themagickalcat.com/Amulet-Magical-Sun-Seal-p/apro11.htm

This trick does work in real life to a degree. If you visualize your surroundings, including yourself, and then delete yourself from the image, and sort of “push” the image outwards, even if someone is looking for you, they (often) will look right past you. I believe it has more to do with your physical behavior as you do this than any mystical component, in removing yourself from the image of reality you’ve constructed, you relax, and blend in better. The “grey man” is always the most difficult to discern.

    • JW Reply

Huh, and not too expensive either. I’d better buy one before the demon apocalypse comes around.
That explains how he keeps sneaking up on people (and demons).

    • NotImportant Reply

Wow, nice! But it’s kind of disappoint how easy it is to find it due to all those people making fake pendants… Eh. Nevertheless, congrats! I promised a pack of Pocky so if you are willing to provide your address I shall try to communicate with the Japanese at my local post office. I bet they’ll be thrilled ๏◡๏

I like your additional comment as this is precisely how Stefen is blending in. He’s never invisible… He’s just blasted hard to notice while he wears that thing.

And an additional question, since the one you found is some nameless fake without any origin – can you (or anyone else willing to join the fun) pinpoint the book that talisman originally comes from? There’s more to that talisman than the website you gave in the comment suggests.

        • JW Reply

NB, that’s the second edition title, first edition was called “The Book of Black Magic and of Pacts”
And I wouldn’t necessarily bet on it originating there. Everyone was just copying everyone else anyway.

          • JW

There’s an earlier mention in “The Black Pullet” (one of the half-dozen grimoires “The Book of Ceremonial Magic” is based on)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Pullet (page 27 of the pdf)

Does Stefen have the accompanying ring, though? (Or isn’t one necessary in the replay universe version?)

          • NotImportant

I am so proud! The Black Pullet! \(-ㅂ-)/ ♥ ♥ ♥ And I guess it’s not a huge spoiler to say that Stefen doesn’t own the ring (that’s why he can’t get fully invisible).

          • Speedy

Nope. Sorry. You’re all wrong. That is clearly the face of the Sun Baby from TeleTubbies. I always knew that thing was gonna cause the Apocalypse some day! 😉

XD That pendant! It looks like something that is perpetually perturbed, like it is witnessing something it is uncomfortable with, yet doesn’t want to say anything about it because apparently others seem to be enjoying it. So it’s stuck feeling like the odd one out and constantly internally reevaluating whether it is the one who is weird, or everyone else around it, unintentionally further alienating itself regardless of the conclusion it has come up with the reevaluation. So, in the end it is stuck with this expression, because there is nothing else it can do about it…

What am I doing with my life.

    • NotImportant Reply

Why, describing the internal turmoil the poor pendant is experiencing. I think you have its feelings spot on 😀

Maybe it will open the secret door in the template of light and I can finally get my mirror shield (after the obligatory brutal boss fight of course).

  12. Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Found it, and did not take as long as I imagined.
It’s the magical sun seal, suppoed to aid spells of invisibility and misdirection. I gather that’s why he is alive. The demons just didn’t find him or found other more interesting people to kill.

Now let’s check who was first.

    • Klorix Camp dweller Reply

Further reading in the comments brought up what I expected and had not the patience to search for: the Black Bullet.
Thanks for that! I should have spent more time with magical symbols, but I’m so easily distracted…

Stupid old man. Couldn’t even keep his own glasses safe. Get the ginge girl for the resurrection spell for Renate… then you can die in a ditch somewhere.
